Actually.. Speaking from experience, miscarriages can be genetic. When I was concieved my parents chromosomes got messed up and for some reason my 14th and 15th chromosome are fused together. This is referred to as a translocation in genetic terms. I have 3 younger sisters. Simply for the reason that I have the translocation they are at a high rick of having the same problem. It doesnt cause any problems with general health and hasnt caused any problems with conception. The problem then narrows down to when I TTC. My body breaks my 14th chromosome in half and gives baby 2 instead of one.. So instead of having 1 from me and 1 from dad baby has 3 chromosomes. After this happens 3 things can happen. #1 is miscarriage, which i have had 3. #2 is my body can realize that there is too much genetic information and kick out my 2nd chromosome leaving baby with 2 healthy 14th chromosomes and #3 is that my body can realize the there is too genetic information and kicks out dads chromosome leaving baby with 2 maternal 14th chromosomes which causes a disorder. I dont remember the name and its really uncommon.. but just to make sure you knew.. miscarriage can be genetic but I think it is usually only when there is a chromosome problem with the mother.
I stand corrected then! :) When I miscarried, I did A LOT of studying on it. What causes it, etc. and I never found anything about this.I read everything I could find and never read about this. I apologize!!
I'm glad your pregnancy is going well this time! :)
oh its no big deal.. and honestly you are right in the fact that if your mom has a miscarriage it doesnt always mean you will have one because like you said a lot of women will have at least 1 miscarriage.. but sometimes if it is chromosomal it can be more genetic.. in my case its not my parents because my mom never had a miscarriage but the genetic counselor is concerned that since i carry it my sisters may have miscarriages.. Thank you! im really glad too.. Pregnancy is a huge miracle and I am so glad to be this blessed.
Miscarriages are not genetic. Meaning, just because your mother had one does not mean you will. The reason they happen is something is not right with the baby.
There is no reason to think that you will miscarry your first baby. That being said, there is a high likelyhood that SOMETIME in your childbearing years you could miscarry. I believe the statistic is one in 5 pregnancies.
The best things you can do to prepare the most healthy body for your baby are: do not smoke or drink or do drugs, eat well, exercise, and take your vitamins even BEFORE you conceive. Especially folic acid.
Best of luck to you! :)
