Is it normal after a miscarriage....?

I had a miscarriage last month. I just had my first period since the miscarriage. However, my period seemed alot heavier then usual. Normally "regular" tampons are more then sufficient for me. However, with this period I was having to use "super plus", and they were barely enough. Also, I had alot more cramping then normal. Normally I just have those little "twinges", but they're manageable. But with this period they were almost unbareable. So my question is, is a heavier flow, and more cramping common things after a miscarriage? And if so, how many more periods can I expect to be like this?
