Is it possible that a blood pregnancy test gives a false postive?

Is it possible that a blood pregnancy test gives a false postive?

okay so i'm new here, and i am very confused... i took three urine tests, and one blood test... all came back negative. over the last couple weeks, i have been extremely tired, i have been nauseous, i have been getting headaches on & off (with no logical explanation as to why i'm getting them), my breasts seem just slightly heavier, my nipples are almost always erect, the area around my nipples has gotten just a bit bigger, and also darker, i have been dizzy lately, also, i can just be sitting around doing absolutely nothing, and i will all of a sudden feel like i am going to get sick to my stomach. i am now 6 days late for my period (i am NEVER late), the day after i was supposed to get my period, i got light bleeding, which lasted about a day and a half, maybe two days. it was not constant at all. my periods are never that light, nor are they ever this late. my family seems to think that i am making this all up, but i know i'm not. i got pregnant last year, and ended up having a miscarriage. i did not realize i was pregnant until i had the miscarriage, but i still would be able to tell if i'm getting the symptoms... also, when i was younger (about 6 years ago) i was going through some tough times, so i taught myself to only eat once or twice a day, and no matter how much i tried to eat more over the last 6 years, i just couldnt do it. now all of a sudden i am hungry constantly, for the last week i have been eating at least 3 times a day, all three meals. its so unlike me. my mom thinks that maybe i'm just gaining an appetite for no reason at all, i however know different. is it possible that i may be pregnant & the blood test gave me a false negative?

I was always under the impression that there can be false negatives for a pregnancy but there there are NEVER false positives.  Therefore, I would get tested again to be sure.

I suggest you get tested some persons dont get a positive result until they are well in their pregnancy so jus give it some time and if the symptoms continue see your doc again

If you are late for your period, you should do what you have already done.  Take a sensititve home pregnancy test, using a first morning urine and following the directions exactly.
If it is negative, wait a week to see if you get your period.  If not, take the test again.  If it is still negative, chances are that you are not pregnant.  At that point, you can either wait (because its possible to skip a cycle even if it has never happened before), or see your doctor for a blood pregnancy test.

The most common reasons that a pregnancy test would be negative even though someone is in fact pregnant, is testing too soon.  There has to be enough HCG circulating in the body to be detected.  So always wait until you are a few days late to test.
Testing before you miss, or on the day you are due, raises the chance of a false negative, so why do it?

The spotting you had complicates things.  It is possible to have an early pregnancy that does not develop, and is simply absorbed and/or expelled.  This can evidence itself by spotting and/or a late period or unusual bleeding.  A pregnancy test may not be positive in this instance, if there is not enough HCG to be detected from the abnormal pregnancy.

I would say, if you are continuing to have abnormal spotting, you should go to the doctor regardless.  Spotting can also be a sign of an infection.   Your other symptoms may or may not be related at all to what's going on with your cycle.

Good luck,
