Is my 17 month old son having seizures?

Is my 17 month old son having seizures?

My son is 17 months old and I think he is having night seizures. In the last two weeks this has happened twice. He will be sleeping soundly and he will suddenly wake up screaming and crying. Tonight when I went in his room, which was about five to ten seconds after he started to cry, he was squatting in his crib crying. When I picked him up he was shaking from side to side. After I picked him up he was shaking for approximately 10 to 15 seconds, and he calmed down he went back to sleep in my arms. The first time this happened I had went to pick him up and he was crying but he was standing up in his crib. I was a little concerned but figured it had taken me too long to get him from his room and he was upset. I am a first time mom and a little paranoid but Im concerned there is something more wrong. His babysitter mentioned to me last week that she felt his equilibrium was off, but I watched him for some time and didn't notice him being any clumsier than a regular toddler so I hadn't thought anything about it. He has also had a slight fever the last couple days, but I just associated it with teething. If you have any suggestions I would be happy to hear them.

Really hard to tell if he's seizing based on the info. He may be having night terrors, nightmares. The only way to know for sure if he is having seizures is to do an EEG asleep and awake.

I am going thru the same thing with my 16 month old.  Her thrashing and crying was almost all night long.  We needed to rule out seizures so we took her to a Ped. Neuologist and they did a EEG.  The conclusion was that she is suffering from severe Night Terrors.  There is not much that can be done, other than trying to control her enviroment and keeping her naps and sleep schedule regulated.  The worst nights are when we have busy days and naps are not so good.  Hope this helped, and Good Luck!
