Is there such a thing as too MANY poopy dippers with a new born?

Is there such a thing as too MANY poopy dippers with a new born?

Probably a silly question here.  Jazmine is 5 days old today and we were told she should have 3-4 poopy dippers in a 24 h period at this point.  So far she has had 5 since about 10 am! (its 6 pm here).  Is this too excessive?  My milk just came in (last night) so maybe thats why - Im just a little concerned she isnt getting the nutrients she needs since she is producing so much waste.......

Every little one is different. I think more than 6 might constitute as diarrhea. 3-4 is just the average. Some babies can go days without pooping and others have to go a lot!

She didnt poop the day before at all so maybe that also has something to do with it.  I hope she doesnt have diarrhea ;(    She go in to see her pediatrician tomorrow morning so we will find out how she is going then.

I had the same question when my baby was born, he pooped literally every diaper change!!!! I even called the doctor and they said it was normal. As long as she is having bowel movements and staying hydrated she is fine.

Babies will poop a bunch, especially when they are newborn and breastfeeding.  Jacob made a dirty diaper for almost every feeding.  So usually 8 to 10 a day.  They weren't all big and they didn't smell.  The consistency is watery with seedy looking things in it.  It is completely normal.  I think it starts to slow down at about 6wks.  For breast fed newborn, I think 6-8 would be average.

Good luck and congrats.

DS was almost every diaper.  If it is really watery than it could be diarrhea....But I think it is normal!

some babies poop every feeding - mine pretty much does that.  We have a book our ped gave us (written by 2 pediatricians) that says some babies will even poop in anticipation of a feeding, so as long as it isn't too watery it is normal.  My DD sounds like she is blowing a hole in her diaper with some of her farts (daddy is so proud!) but so far all seems to be fine with her.  We go to the ped on Monday, so I will ask him about it then, but she seems to be fine and just likes to poop a lot!

dd pooped 8-10 times/day for the first 3 months of her life. then she went a week without, and evened out to once or twice a day.

My son used to go about 10 times a day where as my daughter was lucky if she went twice a week. Both were considered as normal. They have both sorted them selves out now. But I would rather deal with a poopy baby then a constipated one coz it is heartbreaking when they are in a struggle and crying in pain.

Well, we went to her pediatrician today for her check-up and she said everything is normal - and this can be expected based on the amount she feeds a day (it was 11 times yesterday!).  She has even put on weight since she was discharged from the hospital 2 days ago so everything is going great.
