Itching during pregnancy

My sister has just found out she is pregnant, maybe only 4 or 5 weeks but she is incredibly itchy, all over, it has been so bad that a few nights a go she only got 2 hours sleep and then the next night she couldn't sleep at all. All Google searches come up with itching in the 3rd trimester but not the 1st. She will be making an appointment to see her doc but I just wondered if any one here experienced anything like this so early on?

i had the itching in my 2nd and 3rd trimester. it was from something called cholestatis. It is something she should mention to her ob and possibly get a blood test for liver function! i found ice packs handy to help with the itching, she may also be able to take an antihistamine however because she is in her first trimester she should talk with the pharmacist first. Mine started at 15 weeks

I'm not sure if you can get cholestasis of pregnancy at  4 or 5 weeks gestation. She should definately see her doctor to see what's going on.

It may or may not have anything to do with her pregnancy.

I had the same thing. I itched all over and I could find nothing when I searched for answers. Everywhere itched. It lasted a few weeks and then went away. I wonder if it's just hormonal causing skin changes? That's what I chalked it up to. I hope she stops itching soon!
