LH surge indicated - Progesterone level shows I didn't ovulate. Is it possible?

We have been trying to conceive for years.  Progesterone level was a "3" on cycle day 21.  They said it was very low and I didn't ovulate.  I did an Ovulation test which showed an LH surge on day 14 of that cycle.  Can it be possible to show an LH surge but not ovulate???  The doctor put me on Metformin.  Has anyone ever heard of using that med for low progesterone?

Oh yeah, I have heard from people that you can have a pos. LH surge and not ovulate. It is all so confusing.

Hi there yes I have been taking metformin (500mg) since 2003. At first they only had me taking 2 tablets a day than in Sept. 2004 a different doctor told me to take 4 tablets a day and in October 2004 I got pregnant. But I have something called polycystic Ovary Syndrome. Do you? We have started trying  again because we would like a second baby. I really hope everything works out for you.

Not to get off the subject but how do you determine the difference between ewcm and sperm.

My progesterone on CD22 was 8.7 (they like to see 10+ for ovulation), but an OPK before that showed an LH surge. My doc is putting me on Clomid this cycle.

i would suggest to chart BBT. that is the best way to find out if you are in fact ovulating.

Yes, you can have an LH surge and still not O.  If you have low progesterone, oyu may also have a luteal phase defect (LPD).  This is when the time from O to AF is less than 10 days.  Ideally, you should have 14 days from O to AF.  Anything less than 10 days means that your uterus tissue begins to break down before the fertilized egg has time to implant.  You should start BBT charting to confirm O.  BBT charting will also help you determine the length of your LP.  Just count how many days of raised temps you have, and that's your LP.  Your LP will not change from cycle to cycle.  It is always the same number of days.  BTW, LPD is correctable so don't panic.  Best of luck to you.

yes, low progesterone is definitely fixable.  It is definitely possible to get the surge and not ovulate.  It means your body tried to ovulate but for some reason, didn't (perhaps progesterone).  Charting will tell you for sure although your levels do sound like you didn't ovulate.  But luckily, it is easily correctible in most cases.
