Leah Gained 5 oz overnight!

Leah Gained 5 oz overnight!

I went back to the ped. this morning with leah and we found that she went from 6 lb 10 oz to 6 lb to 15 oz over night!  The ped. was very pleased and said that it showed just how dehydrated poor little Leah really was.  I have been pumping a lot and supplementing a lot too.  I just want her to eat every 1 to 2 hours like the ped said.  I pumped only an ounce a bit ago but I gave it to her and she took it.  jaundice isnt bad enough to ***** her she said.  she goes back on fri for a weight check

Glad to hear things are better, I bet you are feeling relieved. Is she nursing at all or have you just switched to bottles? If you are nursing keep offering the breast at every feeding and pump afterwards. Best of luck.

Congrats!  Did you go ahead and supplement with formula?

Also, did the ped. tell you how to check for dehydration?

My ped's office had me squeeze a finger tip and then count how long for the blood to return...should be like no more than 2 or 3.  If it took longer they were starting to get dehydrated.  They were older so I'm not sure if it would be as accurate in a newborn, but you might ask so you can check for peace of mind.

But anyway, congrats on the weight gain!!  One of the many challenges you'll face as a new mother -- just like all of us -- and everyone is here to help each other!  How awesome!

Congrats, get plenty to drink and plenty of rest!!

Oh good!  I am so glad to hear that!!!  How do you like that pump??  I am thinking about getting the avent pump (electric) because I had one of the hand pumps from them with my dd and it got a lot of milk out... but I was wondering about the brand you bought??

Yes, I'm ok! Still waiting on the doc's office to call me back and let me know when to come in. I thought they closed at 4:30 and they actually close at 5:30 so I was stressing majorly as it's 5:15 here. Hopefully they call soon! I am thinking thye'll have me come in the morning though instead of tonight. :( I'll keep you updated!

I got the medela single electric "swing" pump.  I really like it.  I have a manual advent pump that is nice but sort of painful and I tend to give up... just because I have to focus so much on the fact that I"m pumping.  With the single electric I have a free hand and dont have to watch.  And I think it is getting as muvch if not more out.

Leah is def. more awake and alert after all that feeding yesterday!  In my post I think I said the jaundice isnt bad enough to p o k e her.  Why would that be censored?  Seriously!

Oh my gosh yeah. My little guy was born at 8 lbs on the 20th went for a doc appt. on the 23rd Thurs he was down to 7lbs 3 ounces, they had me come back on Sat. to weigh him and he was back up to 7lb 10 ounces.
They should have explained to you at the docs office that that is common those first few days. Instead of having you scared to death and worried.
And as far as the sleeping thing newborns those first few days sleep 20 hrs a day, even those first few weeks sleep all the time and they are supposed to. So dont think cause she's sleeping alot that there is something wrong or its becasue she's not getting enought milk.
My doctors office said that sleep and not to much stimulation will help prevent colick.
