Linea Negro

by asia1, Feb 15, 2006 12:00AM
I am 33 weeks pregnant  and it does not appear that I have linea negro (dark brown line that appears on the lower part of the belly during pregnancy).  Is this normal?
I remember having it with my first child!

Ask your doc, but in my opinion, I would be thankful that you don't have it. It's not exactly the most attractive part of pregnancy!

I had the dark line with my first child but not with my second. Everyones body is different.Good luck

I've never had it with all 3 of my children. I'm on my 4th now, but not long enough to see that! And yes like the previous posts, be glad that you DON'T have it!!!!

I have one and it is very visible.  My husband thinks that its is attractive, but you know how we are when we become pregnant with all the hormones with think almost everything is wrong.

Thank You all for your answers!
I would prefer to have it - just because I had it with my first pregnancy - I tend to compare the two and any variation makes me anxious. I know it is a very stupid approach, but yet I can't help it!

There is nothing stupid about the questions we ask.  You never  know someone may be wondering the samething but scared to ask because they think the question is stupid.  You will never know until you ask.  I know I have asked several of crazy questions, but I bet there is somebody else wondering the same thing.

I never had it with either of my children and i guess i'm glad i didnt. Now the blue and pink lines are another story, i'm very fair skinned, and i looked like a road map.

Does this line go away or it  stays,  because I am 6W 4d, and I already see the mark under my navel, is it normal to see this mark so early.

I had that line when i was pregnant with DD, so far with this pregnancy i don't have it at all. Yes it does go away, i think it took 1-2 months before mine went away.

I did not have it at all with my first
with this one it was so dark - that at 9 weeks post partum it is still brown!

this is what I read about linea negra. everywoman has that dark line whether you are pregnant or not. The reason why it shows up is because of our skin being stretched and thinned out. Black women almost always show this line when they are pregnant due to their dark skin. the paler our skin tone, the less it shows up. the line has nothing to do with the health of the pregnancy. so I wouldn't worry if you have it or not.

I have 3 and didn't have it with any of mine. Did get a new freckle for each one of them though.

not to change the subject, but I have been using the strecth mark cream and by my stomache being strecthed right now I can see strech marks that I may have after pregnancy.  Will it get worse once i give birth?

I'm not sure how far along you are but the stretch marks get better after several months post partum as they fade to white. They were definitely the worst part of my PG with DD as I went past my due date and it was within those last couple weeks that my belly was covered. Yuck!

I am such a small thing and it is not a pretty site so far.  If they don't go away on their own what can I use.  I did not get them with ds.  Of course i was not as big with him as I am with this pregnancy.
