Low Iron Levels

Low Iron Levels

Hi Girls,

Just wondering if any of you have low iron (anemia) from your pregnancy and what you are taking or doing to raise your iron levels.

I started off with relatively low iron (10.9) and was down to 9.3 at my appointment 3 weeks ago...but I have the feeling it has gone down even more, despite the fact that I take supplements and try to eat some foods rich in iron.  The problem is that I dont like a lot of foods high in iron and that the supplements seem to make my stomach a little weird (wont go into more details!)

I AM SOOOOO TIRED ALL THE TIME!!!!!

Just curious about your experiences and if you found anything that works!

I have low iron as well.  I take the generic supplements that I got from Walmart.  They seem to keep me hovering around the low normal level.  I dont like the way they make me feel either, moreso with my bowels.

I also feel tired all the time.  Exhausted actually.  Im not sure if its the anemia, working full time, or chasing after a 6 year old and 11 month old all while I'm ready to pop another baby out.  probably a mixture of all three.

In any case, I'm at the end of my third pregnancy and can see teh light at the end of the tunnel.  If you're near it, great, if not... the supplements are about all I can recommend.

good luck!

I have low iron as well.. before i started taking meds i was soo tired... it was sooo weird... now.. i take
SLOW FE slow release IRON...

my doc had me on 1 a day.. but now i am on 2 a day..

they do not constipate me.... or make me feel yucky.. so.. i am very happy about that.. i LOVE them..lol.

you can get them at any drugstore.. or store.. like wally world..

high potency
once a day
60-% fewer incidence of GI side effects compared to immediate release Iron tabs..

hope this helps you  out..

God Bless

i've been anemic the entire pregnancy but dont take supplements... cant stand to be any more constipated. unless you're a vegetarian, try eating red meat more often. spinach is also good.

If you have a Low Iron Level I would say to get sum Vitamins at the store that say Iron. You will know which one im talkin about. Also its very important in a pg. to eat alot of meat and beans alot of things with protein. breand and cearels are good also. liver and eggs its all up to if u are really nautious and can keep this food down but it will really help cause u need it.

when i was preg with ds i had low iron.  vitamins didn't work.  my body did not absorb them.  i had to get a shot in the bum once a week for last 10 weeks of preg.  try eating iron enriched foods like previous posters have suggested.  u don't want that shot ...believe me, it was painful!!!
