Low Milk Supply- Fenugreek

Low Milk Supply- Fenugreek

I have always had plenty of milk however I got a severe breast infection where I was so clogged and infected I couldnt feed, or pump because nothing came out (I tried though regularly) for 4 days! Now I'm cleared up and trying to feed but nothing comes out and I mean nothing! I pump for 35 minutes and not even a drop! My daughter is 7 months and has always been an impatient eater and now she wont even suck at all. She wants to turns in but gets so frustrated when nothing comes out. So I heard about Fenugreek. Whats the doses on that? Does it work? I do not want to stop breast feeding yet.  Any suggestions or comments? Thanks!

You take two capsles three to four times a day and also I would suggest taking Blessed thistle in conjunction with it the same amount of capsles. Ther is also a mothers milk tea that is great! I would make her nurse every two hours even if she does for jsut a dew minutes then pump. I would nto go longer then 2 hours till your supply comes back in good and once during the night also if she feeds then too. It will come back I promise! The fenugreek is wonderful! I used the two things along with a pump when I was getting a supply ready to feed and adoptive baby. I had not nursed my own for alomst 7 years and got my milk in 10 days and was getting an oz from each side. Remember that not all woman can get milk from a pump! It is not like baby at all really. Also drink a large glass of water (only no other fluids have the same effect) about 20 min befoer you nurse as this helps the let down reflex. Getting her to nurse first then using the pump is way better then just using the pump as it will release your natural hormones. There is a drug called motilium that works good to help milk production but it is not for sale in most states and I did get mine from Canada I think it was. You do not need a perscription. They have reglan I think it is called in the us but ther ahve been studies that show site effects to baby so I would not use it. THe motiluim is used by alot of adoptive parents and is safe! You should look on Jack Newman's web site and he has lots of info and you can email them and ask questions as well. They also have vidoes to watch. Best of luck!!! Stay hydrated my dear and it will flow!

hey there, beer (i know sounds strange) is supposed to be amazing at making milk, non alcoholic obviously! it is in both breasts? i would keep putting her to the breast and try and relax( i know very hard with a crying baby) and maybe express with ur hands rather than pump as it will stimulate better. just think it took 3-4 days for your milk to come in in the 1st place so try and keep with it. hope it works out for you xxx

Fenugreek did not work for me, and if you aren't even getting a drop you might need a perscription for something.  There is some drug your dr can give you that can help get your supply back.

As for beer, that can help some, but usually only those who have a hard time relaxing to get the milk going.

Did you ever feel "full"?  How long have you been breastfeeding?  If you had a great supply for the first 3 months you have a good chance at getting it back up to where it should be.

I had a lot of supply issues towards the end (thanks to some medication my dr prescribed to me), and what I found to help was hot showers and power pumping (10 min on, 10 min rest, and continue till you can't take it anymore).  Also, I used a little olive oil on the horns, they helped so I didn't get sore from all the pumping, you just need a little on the horns (If you use too much you might leak milk a little).
