Low Sperm Count...what helps?

Low Sperm Count...what helps?

My DH was just told he has a low sperm count and that it would be unlikely we will ever conceive naturally. Is there anything that we can do to help me get pregnant? Does pre-seed work for this sort of thing? Any advice would be great! Thank you.

I read this on another site and thought it might help......I myself am not to sure about low sperm count but this info sounds pretty good.

First - have him switch from briefs to boxers. Tight underwear can restrict blood flow to the testicles, which reduces sperm count.

Two - no hot baths for him.

Theee - no sex EXCEPT when you are ovulating! This means no masturbation either - just save up all those sperm for the right time. Needless to say, make sure you do make love on those days, and make sure it all - um - goes in the right place.

Four - try to get him to lay off caffeine, alcohol, tobacco and/or marijuana. They all reduce sperm count.

Okay, this last one's for you - after you make love, you STAY IN BED with your legs raised over your head - wrap your arms around your knees, for comfort - for about 15 minutes. This lets gravity help the sperm get to the right place.

Good luck.

A doctor told my partner and I that taking zinc tablets helps the reproduction of sperm count and it actually says some stuff about it on the bottle.

I agree with the other posts. My fiance and I had infertility testing done and based on his sperm analysis we were told the only way we would be able to have a child together would be through IVF (there were very few sperm that appeared healthy- he had a low sperm count and low motililty and many were deformed ) . After looking into IVF we decided it was something we could not afford at the time and we gave up trying last summer. When I went for my pap in October I was completely shocked to find out I was pregnant! I remember in September when I was close to ovulating we BD and I remember putting pillows under my butt and laying like that for  20min.- even though I thought it was impossible to get pregnant I kept thinking maybe just one healthy sperm would make it's way there- and it worked!!! I know that that was the day the baby was conceived. Anyway- don't give up hope- there's lots of great advice out there- avoid alcohol, don't wear tight clothing, Vit C and zinc may also improve sperm count-. Good luck to you and I'm sending baby dust your way!!!

Not sure if anyone will read this since its a day old but my DH had a reverse vasectomy in 05, nothing was happening....had three semen analysis done by regular Drs (not RE)  and they just said he had a low sperm count then had a semen analysis done in Jan  by an RE and it said his white blood cell count was really high indicating an infection that the RE said could have been from the surgery. DH went on antibiotics and two weeks later I was pregnant, even with a second semen analysis done with even lower numbers. Have your RE's check for this if they havent already, we were in the dark for 2.5 years about it.  It was just too much of a coincidence for it to be anything else. I know every persons situation is different but I just wanted to shed some light on something I never thought could have contributed to our infertility. I hope it can help someone out there :)

Thanks everyone! I had no idea about the zinc. I just heard today that a man has to keep really hydrated as well and my DH does not drink coffee but does enjoy  soda with caffeine. My DH will be going to see a urologist too...I just hope to get some answers and some good news somehow. We can't afford IVF. Has anyone heard of insemination with sperm washing? I read it is only 35% effective...If anyone has gone through that and could tell me either a success story or whether it is a waste of time, I would appreciate it....
