Low heart rate at 6 weeks?

by hopingforanother, Apr 23, 2009 01:55PM
Blah!  I had a miscarriage 5 months ago, the baby never developed.  Now I am 6 weeks pregnant and we had an ultrasound.  We were thrilled to see a heartbeat!  I was so relieved, but when my nurse called, she said the heartbeat was low, 65-85 beats per minute.  She said it was too early to tell, and scheduled another ultrasound at 8 weeks.  Now I am sooooo worried.  By the way, I had two healthy pregnancies before this last miscarriage, and am so grateful and lucky to have them.  But I am wondering how accurate the heart rate was?  The tecnician had me hold my breath to get a reading.

Thanks,
Julie

It could go either way from what I've read on this forum & the pregnancy 35+ one.  There was a woman who's baby started off w/a low heartbeat (I believe it was around 85) & went on to have a healthy pregnancy.  Her user name is kellym.  It might be worthwhile to contact her & get more information.

I'm sorry for your previous m/c - hopefully, two weeks will make a big difference on the baby's heartbeat & all will be well - jen

Hi, I have the same situation. Last week on Friday, I was 6 weeks prg. and heartbeat was 79. When the doctor told me it was a sign of miscariage I was so disappointed. I cried all weekend. I'm 35 and this will be my first baby. Tomorrow I'll have another ultrasound, I'm so nervous. I hope it becomes normal ...

My baby's heart rate was 109 at6w 3d  my doctor said not to be to hopeful, but the u/s tech told me that she see's a low heart beat all the time in 6w-7w and that they come back in two weeks and they are in the 160's  I am now 21wks with a healthly baby boy! best of luck to you and your little bean!

Pleasant update!

So, after miscarriage last winter, this time I've been scared.  I had low heart beat of 65-85 at 6 weeks, minor brown spotting, and didn't feel pregnant anymore.  Today I went for 8 week ultrasound expecting the worse, but there was a little bean beating away at 171!!!  I'll keep you updated, thanks for your thoughts!

Girls, sorry to hear about your scares!
Honestly, I would say don't get too worried yet ( I know, easier said then done!)
It is very possible that your baby's heart just recently started beating.  When it first starts it's not in the 100's like we expect.  In my experience, when we see lower heart rates at 6 weeks we have them come back in 1 week to re-eval and most of the time the hearts beating much faster as we would expect.  Not always, but MOST of the time.

I just don't want you to stress and lose hope yet.  Good luck ladies!!!  : )
