Male u/s tech

Male u/s tech

Ok ladies today I was all excited as went to hospital for first scan, am only 5-6 weeks gone so needed an internal u/s. I didnt have the u/s as there was only a male tech on so have been delayed until monday. The male tech was a bit rude when I asked for a female. was wondering what others feelings are as to if its normal to have internal u/s done by a man.  If it was an abdominal one I would not have had an issue  but I feel an internal one should be performed by a female?  Am I wrong?

Do you have a problem with a male physician examining you?  Probably not.

Having said that, he shouldn't have been rude at all.  Its your choice, and if they have a female, and you want one, they should be happy to accomodate you.

No I have no pronlem with seeing a male doctor, its just that I feel that for an internal u/s it is very personal and I dont feel comfortable wwith a man

When I had my mc last year, I had an internal scan at 6weeks, and mine was a male gynaecologist! I had no problem with it at all... It's not as if they stare or anything. What exactly made u not want a male doing it? With that being said, it's all about choice! Sure is a bummer they didnt have a female around to do it.

At my RE there are more male doctors then females so you take what you can get. Most of the ultrasounds during fertility treatments are internal so i have overcome my "fear". When i have had u/s at a lab, the tech never went down there so to speak. I was under a sheet and they passed me the wand. In my experiences they are trained to do this job and it isn't a violation of privacy. When i had my embryo transfer my doctor was male and the embryologist was a young not bad looking guy...that was awkward! But it is their jobs. I believe it is what you are comfortable with. In my case if i want treatments i can't be too particular...the waitlist is long enough so I don't even think about it anymore, i have been poked and proded so many times. But if it is out of your comfort level then you have every right to say so!! Where i live if it is a male doctor or u/s tech doing an internal exam, a woman nurse is always present.

The tech usually does hand you the wand...I've had both male and female techs, and they both did the same thing.
Neither tech saw my hey-nanoo-nanoo at all.

Good luck with the scan!

I don't have a problem with male Techs/Dr. But it is a very personal thing and if you're not comfortable with that then there should not have been a problem. Pregnancy can be stressful and if that is one aspect you can control then go for it!

My ob is a man. I've been seeing him as my ob for almost 10 years now. In the office I go to there are six doctors 5 men 1 woman. The only one who has ever been rude to me...the woman.
