Maternity leave from work and...

I'm a C.N.A., tonight I tried to lift someone who was normally not much of a problem for me, and I almost dropped her on the floor... I feel like a big wimp, like I can't do my job properly anymore...I need the money from work, but I dun wanna hurt the baby and/or myself...I'm only at 32 weeks, I'm told, but if I can't do my job anymore... I dunno, maybe I should go on maternity leave, maybe I shouldn't?

Also, does anyone know what someone at 32 weeks & with gestational diabetes can do for this annoying constipation???

DO NOT LIFT ANYTHING.  STOP THAT!

HONEY, I KNOW YOU WANT TO WORK BUT YOUR BABY IS FIRST.  I AM TOLD CONSTANTLY NOT TO CARRY MY 24 LB BABY MUCH AT ALL.  I AM 3 MONTHS.

IF YOU CAN DO OTHER THINGS OTHER THAN LIFTING AT WORK--ASK FOR HELP.  THEY SHOULD SUPPORT YOU.

TAKE CARE

I think at 32 weeks you should not be lifting people they are way too heavy. You will do yourself an injury or someone else. It is not good for you or your baby. If you cannot go on light duties I would reccommend maternity leave. Good Luck look after yourself.

Definitely you shouldnt be lifting at this point!!!

I would also like to suggest benefiber...I had gestational diabetes as well and this is what I used.  Check w/ your dr to make sure that they approve but this is what they suggested for me.  Drink plenty of water too!!!  Good luck

I definitly agree with the others and say that you shouldn't be lifting ppl at 32 wks. I know exactly what you mean about the money and not wanting to go on maternity leave until absolutely neccessary. I'm 31 wks and am worried that i won't get to work all the way through, and i don't know what i'll do, b/c i don't have enough PTO time to cover myself if i have to go out before and after the baby is born. But you can definitly hurt yourself or maybe even make labor come on by trying to lift a full grown person, and since your body is letting you know by you hardly being able to lift a person you use to be able to lift i think you should definitly think about maternity leave!
I also have gestational diabetes.

LoL ya, he knows... but I dun think he cares. I don't need a Dr.'s note for maternity leave, just a letter from me asking for it and a letter back from the Exec. Dir. granting it, and she's more than ready & willing.

Thanks, everyone! I have an appt w/my Dr. at 10 this morning... he won't tell me anything though... I asked him about when I should start thinking about maternity leave at the appt before last and alls he said was "There's no recipe for that right now." So, I'm not counting on him for any sound advice on it... actually my work told me yesterday that I need to get things situated so I can take it... maybe not this week, they said but SOON...

i agree, dr give u a note for light duty and your work is supposed to go by that or they can get in trouble. Have u explained to your dr that u r a CNA?

You definitely should not be lifting people during any stage of pregnancy. I understand it is part of the job but you have special needs during your pregnancy and your job is responsible to ensure you have a safe working environment. Talk with your doctor about this. They can give you a note with restrictions and your job has to work with you on this.

Good luck!

LoL Thanx, I needed a lil chuckle. I decided y'all were absolutely right, I'm now officially on maternity leave, just that fast-I think my work realized that I was a bit of a potential liability for them and that's prolly why they were pushing the M.L. quite a bit. :-) (They didn't force me to take it, they just advised me to) lol
