Medical Abortion(Using Cytotec pills)

Medical Abortion(Using Cytotec pills)

Hello all,

Ok, as some of you know I went for my U/S and there was little to no heart beat. I went today for follow up and still the same. This time my doctor gave me a third option which is to have medical abortion using a pill called Cytotec. He had told me I could wait for natural abortion or have D&C before. So what dod you think? Has anyone had this pill before? Is it safe to use this pill?
I appreciate any advice.

Thank You

I have used this option before with a blighted ovum, the doc recommended it because I had had 3 previous miscarriages with d&c's....It worked well, very uncomfortable and had no side effects...God Bless

If it were up to me i would not take the pill.  You cant be too careful when it comes to chemicals in your body.. you never know the lingering effects it may have.  The previous poster had several D&C's before taking the pills.  So i guess it depends on your situation.  Personally i would go for the D&C since it is a quick fix with minimal side effects.  Im not a medicine taker in the first place unless it is truly needed.  This is all your choice.. Im sorry for the loss of your sweet baby..

Hi, sorry for your loss.

I m/c just over 3wks ago, at 11wks. I took a tablet, but not sure what it was called? I had to go back to the hospital 48hrs after to take a follow up tablet and to make sure i passed everything safely.
When i went back to the hospital on the monday morning, nothing much had happened over the wkend, just heavier bleeding, cramping was off and on, nothing to unbearible. They gave me two tablets and put a line into my wrist vein, incase of hemorage.
I felt alittle sick, well threw up, so i had to wait 4 more hours before i could take another dose, when i got the next tablet, i started getting little labour type pains for about 20mins and you can just feel it happening, i sat on a potty thing and passed the baby and plcentre completly and then it was all over.

It didn't hurt,it just takes a little longer to happen but not as long as going natural. I also had a d/c once and that was fine to, in and out, i just couldn't face having another one at the time this m/c happened.I had a healthy boy after my m/c with the d/c.

Now it has been 3 wks monday gone, my hcg levels were high for about 2wks, and now there almost down to normal, so just waiting for my first period, which i hope will be the end of the wk? beforettc again.

Hope it all goes ok what ever you decide?

i have never had the pills, but i  did have a D&C on 12/5 after a missed m/c. i barely spotted for maybe three days, no side effects other than that. i am ovulating as we speak. just make sure to weigh your options. for me personally i could not bear to bleed anymore, i had passed alot of tissue and was having to be given blood. it was very scary and i was glad to wake up knowing it was done. i was very scared to see what i was passing. i know that seems irrational.

good luck in whatever decision you choose. :)

Thank you all so much for sharing youor experiences with me,and sorry for my late response, I was disconnected from internet for a while.
It is very comforting to know what to expect when taking the pill. I am still undecided as to what method I will choose, since i have had D&Cs before. I find D&C more reliable, however considering my past D&Cs i dont want to do it again. On the other hand apparently the ills will make me feel sick and I am scared of that.
Thanks again

I have never taken  the Cytotec pill but have heard
some negative reports about it. I would do some research on it first, look at the FDA website. I believe it is used to speed
up labor also.

This pill was the most horrible thing I have ever been through in my life.  It was worse than just having a natural miscarriage because you are just waiting around for it to happen.  The cramps were also horrible.  Everyone's reactions to the pills are different, but I took them and still had to have a D & C because they didn't even work!

Hi all. I check up here everyday but rarely comment. I saw this topic and had to share my experience. I had to be induced when I was 40 wks because the baby hadn't dropped at all and was on the large side and wasn't going to come on its own for at least another week. So I assumed they would give me pitocin, but instead used Cytotec as an induction method. It was in pill form, they crushed it up, and inserted a small piece manually and placed it against my cervix. Once every 4-5 hours I believe. It worked fairly well, I had an uncomplicated labor aside from the baby being turned the wrong way. I delievered a healthy baby girl about 15 hours from the start of the induction. She is 18 months old now, but I have just learned that Cytotec is actually an abortion pill. To me this seems like something that they should have shared with me, and I knew nothing of any possible side effects. This kinda shocked me to be honest. Well I am very sorry for your loss and Im sorry for taking up so much space.
