Metho shot and alcohol, folic acid

Hello, yes it's me again.....well I drank a protein shake today...b/c I need the protein...and I found out there was folic acid in there!!!!  I had the metho shot over two weeks ago...is this going to affect my treatment...and when is it safe to consume alcohol again.....sad, but I want a glass of wine for New Years!!!! Can you help me with this...I have searched the internet and I cannot find a thing!!! take care!!! Jacquie

Having one glass of wine on New Year's won't affect your pregnancy.

I REALLY hesitate to say that,  because people often say they want one drink,  when they want to drink regularly and are trying to find out the absolute limits that they can drink without harming the baby.

One drink is fine,  during a pregnancy,  but drinking regularly isn't.

Actually, I had an ectopic pregnancy and had a metho. shot to have it absorbed...and I am not supposed to have folic acid or alcohol, but how long do i have to wait???? this shot was 2 weeks ago!!!!

I know your NOT supposed to drink any alcohol At all.Bc it interacts with metho.Which could make you sick.And the folic it will make your metho not work.Which is what happend to me.I had 3 shots! The first one I was not told I could not take folic.So I did.My levels kept rising & I had to get 2 more.Are your levels being checked?Also I was told not to be exposed to to much sun.I was tired all the time & broke out everywere.I was told not to ttc for 3 months.And after my levels were at zero to start taking prenatals & folic(But not till after).Good luck

I am also guessing it goes through your body quickly... I have passed a lot of tissue and finally have stopped bleeding ( I only bled for 4 days) no I have some brown discharge (TMI!!!) but I think I was told until my levels get to 0.... who know what they are now..... I also agree that it is probably out of my system by now.... oh, well.... I guess I will find out on Tuesday... I go for more blood work then.....  thanks girls...you have been a great help!!!

I had the metho shot and I do not remember them even telling me not to have folic acid or alcohol.  I had mine about 8 years ago when it was still new so maybe that is why.  I am sure I had the folic acid because I was still taking my prenatal vitamins.  I would just ask your doctor.

From the reseach I did when I too had an ectopic and metho for it, the actual med stays in your system for only a short amount of time. If I am thinking correctly, your body metabolizes it in something like 10 days (dare I admit I really wanted that glass of wine during that time as well). I would run it by the docs office or even your pharmacist, but I think it runs its course in your body pretty quickly, but that the folic acid can slow it somehow. I don't think one dose will hurt the process much. What a pain and I sympathize with what you're going through~ it s*cks!

I went to a homeopathic Dr. who gave me these protein shakes and there was folic acid in them!!! I only drank one and realized what was in them.... I just need to know how long I need to wait until I can consume alcohol (not that I am a lush) or take folic acid....my Homeopathic Dr. wants me to start prenatals in two weeks...but I guess I had better wait until the levels are at 0..... I am also on tons of supplements....I don't think they will effect the metho. shot....at least that is what they told me.... we'll see.....  thanks for the input and I will not drink any alcohol or have folic acid!!! thanks!!!  Jacquie

I would hold off on that thought I had the metho shot 11/20 and it was 12*21 that my levels finally hit under 5, but it was  a week later it had only dropped by 33 and 3 weeks later is when it drastically dropped. which means to me the shot really did not start working immediately and had to be in my body the whole 4 weeks cause i only had 1 shot. In actuality they say you should not try for 3 mnths after the shot but I had it back in 2001 had the hsg and w/n 3 mnths was preg again with a healthy preg and baby. Again my levels were not all the way down this time but it was down to the 30's before i started back having drinks. I would at least give it a mnth to say it is totally out of your syst. I read on an internet site that alcohol should be avoided to reduce the risk of liver damage not to interfere with the shot itself. You have to remember everyones body is different and every pregnancy is different miscarriage or healthy with my first ectopic in 2001 i had to get multiple shots to dissolve and this time i only had to have 1. I have 4 kids and with all my pregnancies and labors and delievery they were all different. so you just really have to go off your discrection.
