Migraines and what to take to relieve them

Migraines and what to take to relieve them

I have gotten migraines for 10 years now and about 5 years ago they found a medicine that would relieve them. Then in May 2007 I found out I was pregnant, and can no longer take it. My doctor thought maybe I wouldn't get them anymore, but unfortuantly they have been a very big problem during my pregnancy they have tried all kinds of meds Demorol,Floricet,Tyenol 3, Lortab, and tramdol. Some of those medicines actually worked but everytime I get one they have to see me at my doctors office, because they won't write refills when I get these meds. So I was wondering if someone knew a med that might work that I may be able to get refills when I do go in to the doctors office.

I have suffered from chronic migraines for years.  You probably know about rebound headaches (i.e., taking certain kinds of pain medication increases the sensitivity of the pain receptors in your brain, so people actually have fewer headaches by taking less pain medicine).  Cutting down on medication really helped me (after about a month).  Also, a neurologist told me to take magnesium and vitamin B2 for migraines; this has really helped me as well.  There is a lot of information online about that combination.  I'm not sure if you can take the combination while pregnant, but I'm sure you can find that out, either online or from your doctor.

My 9 year old daughter has had a seizure disorder since she was 3.  They put her on a medication called Depakote.  When we got the medicine information, it was listed that it was given to people with Migraines.  I am pretty sure that you would not be able to take this during pregnancy, but maybe after you baby is born you can check it out.  Good luck on a healthy pregnancy.  Kasie

I take butalbital(fioricet) while I am pregnant, it did help me alot, and, it's safe during pregnancy. Tylenol 3 (with codeine) is not safe during pregnancy.
