Migraines

by psyched2BaMom, Sep 12, 2007 11:12AM
I suffer from serious migraines and i've just become pregnant (about 9 weeks actually)
I have had some very serious migraines already and had to take my Zomig prescription medication.  I felt horrible about doing it but there was really nothing i could do.  I would have these migraines for upwards of 3 days and these are severe (i.e. throwing up, can't lift my head....just really extremely debilitating)  I spoke with my doctor and she told me that migraine meds are category C drugs which means they have never been tested on pregnant women so they don't know the effects on the fetus.  She told me that since i suffer from such severe migraines that i have no choice but to take my meds because that is really the only thing that can help and this is not pain that i can live with or that will just go away with out my meds.
To me it just seems unreal that there isn't some type of "safe" medication that can be offered to pregnant women who suffer from migraines.
I'm just really scared that taking this medication could be harming my baby but i really don't know what to do.
Please help.
