Miscarriage

September 30th I found out I was pregnant.  I went to the doctor and yes indeed I was pregnant.  November 4th was my first ultra- sound.  They discovered I am pregnant with twins.  I was so excited but they didn't find a heartbeat for either of them, sent me to talk to a doctor.  They said I was miscarrying.  They said to make 100% sure they would check my Hcg levels today (Nov. 4th) and again friday (Nov. 6th).  So I went to get my blood test early in the morning and they test for my prenantal levels, and hcg levels.  The man drawing my blood was confused, why are they retesting you for all this if you are miscarrying?  I said I don't know, he said I will take all the blood nessary for these test, and one vial extra just incase, is that ok?  I said that is fine.  I went to talk to the doctor after getting my blood drawn at 2:30 in the afternoon.  Many friends and family said you can't always see the heartbeat at 6 weeks, so there is still hope.  I waited 20 minutes for the doctor to come talk to me, he came in and said my hcg levels dropped, I am sorry I wish I had better news for you.  They want me to go and see a specialist.  I am so suprised because I have had a miscarriage before but this doesn't seem right.  I have cramps, but no discharge, no spotting at all.  They said they will give me 10 days to flush the whole miscarriage out myself, and my hcg levels to go down to 0, can they allow me to go home and deal with this alone?  Last time I had a miscarriage I ended up in the emergency room because I was loosing so much blood I was passing out.  Is this what the doctor should be doing, allowing me to go home in this condition, and telling me to take 4 advil when the miscarriage starts?  Is there any chance he's wrong?

I am so sorry for your loss.  I too have been through this several times and I know how heartbreaking it is.  Yes, it is fine for you to go home and wait it out.  I too had one m/c where I lost an extraordinary amount of blood and had an emergency D&C, so I can understand why you are frightened to do this at home. Remember that losing that much blood is not the norm, especially as early as you are. Most women do just fine miscarrying at home. It should feel much like a very large clot, and the bleeding should be moderate.  Cramping may be strong, but advil should help.  If you begin to fill one pad or more per hour, then go to the emergency room right away.  They will likely monitor your HCG levels regularly until you are at 0 to ensure you have passed everything.   It is not uncommon that you are having no actual symptoms of miscarriage at this point.  Sometimes it takes our bodies awhile to sort it out and begin handling things.  I wish you well, and again, I am so very sorry for your loss.
