Mistaken Miscarriage???Need more opinions

Sorry to post this again since I posted yesterday, but I just wanted some more opinions.  Okay, as many of you know the doctors told me that I started having a miscarriage as of Thursday. In the ER on Thursday my hcg levels were 59. I went to the doctor's office the next day and they just told me that my hcg level went up to 70. It went up by 11 in less than 24 hours. Has this ever happened to anyone? Could it possible be an etopic pregnancy? Or...I know I'm pushing it...could I still be pregnant? Should I insist on having my hcg measured again? The nurse that I talked to said that she would consult the doctor and let me know if I should come back in. She is supposed to call me tomorrow. What do you all think?  Also, i took another pg tests and it's still positive.  How long will it be before it goes down?  It was only 70 last Friday...

if you have ANY doubts then it is your right to request for your doc to do another blood test.  the worst that could happen is that you find out what was previously told to you.  you're like me and i know i could not go on wondering if there was ever any chance of the baby being okay and having the doc do something like a d&c.
have they done an u/s to confirm m/c?
good luck

I would ask for another test. I don't know much about this because when my numbers were checked they wre going down. But if you think you should get another or an US to see for yourself what is going on, that should be your right.

by babe4me, May 10, 2006 12:00AM
they could not see anything on the ultrasoud, but I know 59 or 70 is too low to see anything

by lib and jrs mom, May 10, 2006 12:00AM
i have heard of many women who had an u/s and saw nothing, then later the baby showed up.  how far along did they say you were?  is there any chance you ovulated later than you thought?  that could explain the low hcg and why little one didn't pop up yet.

by mommie2, May 10, 2006 12:00AM
Well, here is a question I would ask. If they saw nothing on the US, did they assume that you ad already MC and if tey thought you already MC they why would your numbers go up.

by babe4me, May 10, 2006 12:00AM
i don't know when i ovulated but my lmp was 3/26 and i got a positive pg test the 6 days before they said i started to miscarry

by babe4me, May 10, 2006 12:00AM
yes the ER doctor and regular doctor said that I had already miscarried

by mommie2, May 10, 2006 12:00AM
That is strange then that your numbers are still going up. I would think!!

by lib and jrs mom, May 10, 2006 12:00AM
Again, it is your right as a patient to request any follow up testing if you feel there is any doubt.  the doc would need to know anyways because if you did m/c and your numbers are going up then something could be wrong and they need to follow up with that.  either way know the doc is there to take care of YOU and YOUR NEEDS.

Thanks for the advice.  The nurse was talking to me like I was stupid for asking questions, but I think I will demand that they at least test to see if my levels have gone down.

I had postive pregnancy tests for 3.5 weeks after i had a D&C which totally eliminated everything from my uterus.  As long as there is hcg in your system you will get a positive.

An ectopic is possible..

I would definately ask for more blood testing if you arent sure.  You are paying for your medical care, you shouldnt be refused any care that you request.

Your HCG level isnt normal.. it is very low.. I am sorry that you are going through this right now.. Dont be afraid to ask questions to the Dr/s and nurses.. it is their job to help you.. Good luck!

Have you ever heard of hcg going up after a miscarriage?  Or do you think I just hadn't miscarried yet?  Also, how long should a natural miscarriage take.  It will be a whole week tomorrow.

Did they consider you having a blighted ovum? With my earlier m/c, I was supposed to be 6 weeks and the ER told me I already m/c because my uterus was empty, but my hcg levels kept going up. They weren't doubling, but I think they were going up by 65% every 2 days. I was 8 weeks when they saw a sac finally, but no baby. Long story short, my hcg levels kept going up until the last week, which they reached in the 19,000's. I bled and cramped for 3 weeks during this time until I finally opted for a D&C. It's not good for hcg levels to drop, but my OB explained to me that there is some room for error with those tests. Also, your levels should increase at least every 48 hours by either 60 or 65%. Once they reach a certain point, around 3,000 or so, they don't double anymore. I don't mean to dampen your day with all this, it's just what I personally went thru. I really hope that you don't have this, and everything's fine. Make sure to demand follow up hcg levels. I'm surprised that they aren't too worried.

If the fetal tissues havent left your body yet, (placenta) etc. then your HCG may continue to rise.  If there was a baby there that was normally growing, the levels would double not increase slightly.  there is a chance that if you are still bleeding that all the tissues arent out of your uterus yet.  I would definately request another blood test to see what is going on.  If the blood tests still show that your HCG is rising but not normally i would suggest that you ask the doctors about the possibility of an ectopic and that you want every test done to make sure there isnt a pregnancy in your tubes. (this can lead to tubal rupture and loss of a tube)

A miscarriage can take a while...

Hang in there.. I hope you feel better and get some answers.. be proactive and seek answers to your questions...

According to my calculations, my hcg went up 65% in approximately 16 hours.  My tests were not done 24 hours apart.  I hope the doctor's office calls me back today like they said but if they don't I will call a different doctor tomorrow.  I need to find someone who actually shows concern for me.

by mommie2, May 10, 2006 12:00AM
I would take charge and call your DR office today, if they don't call by lunchtime. I have found that sometimes if you don't take charge you get lost in the shuffle/.

by babe4me, May 10, 2006 12:00AM
Well..the doctor's office just called and they want me to come back in at 2pm today.  I guess I should find out what's going on one way or another today...we'll see.

I had a blighted ovum in June 2005 and had a D&C. To make a long and very sad story short, my hcg levels kept rising until 11-12 weeks or more. I didn't find out that something was wrong until 12 1/2 weeks. I had no real signs that anything was wrong, no bleeding or cramping. I would definitely demand another ultrasound if your hcg isn't rising like it should be. I hope everything is fine. If there is a problem, just remember that your not alone.

I'm back from the doctor's office.  They just took some more blood and that's it.  They said I should know something tomorrow by noon.  I am very interested to know if my numbers are going up or down.  If they are going down, I know what that means but if they are going up...I have no idea.  I guess there will just be a lot more waiting.
