Morning sickness **Please help**

by Lunastella70, Mar 14, 2006 12:00AM
Good morning everyone!I am going thru ms hell!  I can't function at work properly and feel ill all day and night.  I am 9 weeks pregnant.  Is it true it peaks during weeks 9 and 10 then it tapers off?  Any information on who to "live" with this is helpful.  I can't continue to call in sick.  I am not a wimp, but I really feel at death's door (a tad dramatic).

Any comments are appreciated.

go and see your doctor, there are meds that you can take for severe morning sickness, you might be able to get those

Hey there, I just got through the sickenss, and yes mine did peak about 9-10 weeks and it was awful!!! I went and bought some of those sea bands they have no medication in them they're strictly accupuncture you just wear them on your wrist like a bracelt and they worked immedialtley if someone told me this i probably wouldnt have believed them. But you can find them at a walgreens or cvs, and usuaslly about any grocery store, they work wonders! Other than that hun, try eating crackers before you get out of bed and some sprite or coke. Try never to let your belly get empty thats when I got real ill, and its hard because I didnt want to eat anything. I would just make a piece of toast and slowly eat that or some crackers. It really helps to keep something in there. I so feel for you I am almost 15 weeks now and it calmed down about 2 weeks ago but I still feel ill here and there! God Bless you I hope the ickiness ends soon for ya!

I have had it terrible with all of my pregnancies. This is my 5th. It usually ends at 16 weeks for me but with my current pregnancy went till 18 weeks. I was so sick I was losing weight and the doctor put me on zofran. It makes you feel so much better, but caused severe constipation.

The things that helped me a bit was eating slushie ice. I have a snowcone maker and would make cups of ice and suck on it. Preggo pops are supposed to help and you can buy them online. I never tried them, however. Suck on lemon drops or hard candy when you can. Take Benedryl or unisom and it helps some. They will also knock you out so you can sleep. Chew gum, sip Coke cause something in the coke soothes your stomach. Stop using toothpaste for awhile and see if that helps you. Toothpaste would start my gagging reflex and for awhile I just had to use water and mouthwash/scope. I know its disgusting, but I was so miserable I didn't care.

I will say that all of the above things didn't help me much with this current pregnancy, but have helped me with some of them. The only thing that helped me at all with this one was the zofran and ice slushies. (sometimes I would add some sprite to it)

You are not being a baby even though people make you feel that way. If they haven't been there they have NO idea how bad it can be. I cried all the time and I am not a baby usually. If you have any other questions let us know.

Some people do get over it around 12 weeks but I was not so lucky.

Yes it's normal to peak. Your HcG-levels are at it's hightest now. In the next weeks the placenta will start to work and your HcG will drop (it won't dissapear completely) hopefully enough so you won't be feeling so awful anymore. Good luck. I have had some friends in Belgium who got two weeks sickleave prescribed from their dr!

my m/s started at 6 weeks through week 15. and the very last thing i tried was flat coke. i hear the cola syrup works too. and never having an empty stomach helps a little. i ate so many crackers, i swore i was turning into one! it'll end, or lighten up. even though it feels like hell now. both of my best friends never had any m/s and kept saying "aren't you just enjoying being pregnant?" and i just couldn't understand how u could love feeing like that. but now i want to feel like that. but i'm off the subject. gingerale worked a little for me too. and if you like ginger, try that. ginger snaps worked for my aunt, but they are rather fattening. martha stewart has a ginger tea recipe that seems really simple if you go to her website. my best friend tried it and really likes it. good luck and hang in there!!! :)

I know what you mean. I felt great when pregnant with my first child but I am 12.5 weeks pregnant and have felt sick every single day although I am beginning to feel a little better.

You should call your O.B. and ask for a perscription for a pill called Zofran, it is an absolute life saver and each tablet is only 4 mg.

I am someone that absolutely hates the idea of taking any medication while pregnant, I won't even take tylenol but I have done a lot of checking up on the Zofran and felt okay about using it. It is a pill for nausea that a lot of pregnant women take, some women take it throughout there entire pregnancy or at least the first trimester and it is very safe and a very small dose.

I would call and ask the O.B. about it, if you are really feeling that bad, it is worth calling about.

Good luck and yes, I have heard that once you get into your second trimester, you begin to feel a lot better.

I'm so glad this was posted.  I am 7 weeks pg right now and have been getting bad m/s in the morning, but it seems to get better by the afternoon.  My Mom reminded me about Ginger and I am planning on checking out the grocery store shelves for anything "Ginger" after work today.  Any other recommendations on ginger product or non prescription solutions would be very helpful.

Thanks.  And to everyone who is going through Morning Sickness now, I hope you all feel better.  I know I hope I feel better soon.

God Bless,
Amanda

Thanks everyone for your responses.  I bought the Sea Bands and unfortunately they did not work for me :(.  I am a single parent and cannot afford to loose my job due to so many sick days.  I fainted on the bus home last Friday and I think it's because of the lack of food.  I really can't eat anything, except oranges and clementines.  But I am getting sick of burping citrusy.  I can't even properly wash my teeth.  It is comforting to know that hopefully I will feel better in 3-4 weeks.  I truly hope I don't have to endure this for 9 months.  I bought Ginger Altoids but that hasn't help.  Only thing that sort of minimizes it a bit is tart candy.  The roof of my mouth is all scratched up from sucking.  I will definitely ask for Zofran.

Thanks for your comments and support - it's very lonely doing it alone.

Oh my, that was my thing, I wasn't able to brush my teeth properly without throwing up.  And then you have to brush again and it would make me nauseous throughout the entire day.  For some reason, it was when I brushed the bottom inside of my teeth, but not the top.  I noticed if I ate little meals all day, I would feel better, but I still had throwing up spells all the way through week 14 (week 26 now).  I don't know about the medication, but if it's keeping you from getting proper nutrition, you need to get it asap.

by Haney, Mar 14, 2006 12:00AM
Zofran does help so much but it will constipate you like there is no tomorrow.
If you begin taking it just make sure that you drink a lot of water and cerreal or other foods that are high in fiber.

Milk of magnesia is fine to take while pregnant or Colace, if you get real constipated.
Maybe the citrus fruit is not helping. I cannot eat or drink oranges, they make me vomit. I think the acid in the citrus juice is just too much for my stomach.

I have to eat small meals all day, if I go too long without food, I'll get real nausous.
Yeah, if you are not getting propper nutrients then you should definately try the zofran.

Good luck!! You'll feel better soon!!!

by wannabmommy, Mar 14, 2006 12:00AM
All I can say is..it does get better.I used to cry every day because I couldn't keep anything down and when I did i felt miserable.I am 12 1/2 weeks now and my nausea has pretty much gone away.I only get it once in awhile usually when I haven't eaten for a few hours but that's it.No more vomiting either.I felt better at about 11 weeks.Hang in there girl.It will get better soon.

by duehring, Mar 14, 2006 12:00AM
If you start taking zofran, start using Benefiber right away. You can put it in any drink or cereal and it is tasteless. I didn't start using it till I was so constipated it took me 3 weeks to finally go. You don't need that on top of the m/s.

I tried everything else and that was the only thing that finally helped me.

i'm 12 weeks and still suffering loads. i have a med called phergan for naseau. i'm not really sure i want to take zofran as i read it is used by chemo patients and that seems drastic to me. i have found that Twinnings Lemon and Ginger tea to be very helpful it is caffiene free too. I like to drink it iced with a little sugar.i'm sick most of the day and hope it ends soon. i'm tired of wretching and gagging all the time. My belly is sore as well and seems to be to big for the amount of weeks i am. I hate being pregie I just want the end result now !!!!!lol

by tura, Mar 14, 2006 12:00AM
Ok, I just have to ask... are any of you getting ms but also constantly hungry?  With my first pregnancy I lost weight because I was so sick but here I am 10 weeks pg and have gained 7 pounds!!  I eat and then get sick... but then I feel like I'm starving and eat more.  Please tell me that its not just me!!

by kris1, Mar 14, 2006 12:00AM
I was sick from about week 6 until 12, then the m/s just disappeared. I am now 14 weeks and feel so much better. I was sick all day, crying, missing sooo much work. I took phenergan at might tigan (med they give chemo pt, similar to zofran)in the day time and also a prenatal that is called preemsis that helps with m/s. I also wore sea bands, which did help, all day long! It does get better thank goodness, but I swore I would never get through it!

by duehring, Mar 14, 2006 12:00AM
At least in our state, they can't fire you for missing too much work if it is pregnancy related. The medical leave act protects you from that so check into that if anyone is having trouble with missing alot of work and worried about losing their job.

Hi everyone, i couldn't open another question (i never can!) so i thought i'd ask it here.
i have 2 questions, i got my bfp 2 days ago, last night took another and neg then this morning faint bfp again. could this be b/c i used FMU with bfp and evening urine with neg??
I was told i was at risk of chemical pregnancy so i had to have my bloods done today!
2nd question, i keep, feeling dizzy, almost 2 the point where i can't see a thing and walk (or have the energy). What could this be?
i am feeling a bit baffeled as the symptoms come and go!

kmp1971- I hope things do work out ok for you, i have a feeling my hcg levels are going to be low too. as the tests keep changing their minds!
