Movement?!

by lfb, Mar 09, 2007 12:00AM
OK, so I have been worried because I am pregnant with #2 and am not sure if I can feel my baby move or not.  I think I feel flutters every once in a while and even thought I felt a kick 2 days ago.  Anyway, I know I should not listen to what others say, but I just ran into a lady that is due 2 days before me and she is really heavy.  (I am not thin or heavy, just average!)  She told me that her 5 year old daughter could feel her baby kicking from the outside last night.  The more I think about it, the more I think this probably could not be possible yet.  What do you think?  Should I be feeling stronger movements by now or is she just saying things that are not true?

this is off the american pregnancy association web wite:

"Some moms can feel their baby move as early as 13-16 weeks. These first fetal movements are called quickening and are often described as flutters. It may be difficult to determine whether this feeling is gas or your baby’s movements, but soon you will begin to notice a pattern. First-time moms may not feel these movements as early as second-time moms. Some moms, especially those in their first pregnancy, may not feel movement until 18-20 weeks. Remember that each woman and each pregnancy is different, so you may not feel movement as early as another woman. There is a broad range of when the first detection of movement can be felt, ranging from 13-25 weeks. "

the baby is about 6 inches long head to toe. i doubt her child could feel movement from the outside since she should just be feeling flutters

The baby is about 6 inches head to rump, not head to toe. But anyhow lfb, I think we are due around the same time. I am 16w5d today and STILL have not felt movement that I can say is for sure. I think I have felt a few little thumps here and there but nothing consistent or regular. I always find it funny when people have stories like that. I hate to say they aren't what they think they are, but some of the stories are pretty far fetched! Anyhow, I have been disappointed so far this pregnancy with how long it is taking me to feel movement. It has caused me LOTS of worry! I can't wait until I feel regular movement. It is the best feeling ever.

I wouldn't say that it was impossible, but improbable.  I am 15 weeks 5 days pregnant and have been feeling obvious movement for about 2 weeks, this is my 3rd pregnancy to get beyond 13 weeks.  My fiancee' can feel some of the movements that I feel, the first time he did his face lit up like the first time he heard the heartbeat.  However they aren't that strong and I haven't let my kids tell me if they can feel it just yet, the swelling from my surgery is just going down and they are freaked out by the incision lol.

You'll feel the baby more soon enough, hang in there.  We are all different.

I felt my first child alot sooner than I felt my second. I would say around 20 weeks was when I felt the 2nd one. I don't believe that you feel the 2nd one sooner than the first one. It didn't happen for me anyway.
I'm 28 weeks now and he doesn't stop kicking. Hopefully it will happen soon and get stronger then you won't have to question whether it's a movement or not. Good luck!!

I felt my second one 6 weeks sooner than my first.

Each baby is different too.  My first son was always moving and you could see my belly all of the time.  This one is more mellow.  I did feel him sooner, but he is not nearly as active, still moves a lot, but I can tell he takes a break and sleeps a bit more in the day.  Even his movements are different.  MAybe that's why the other gal is feeling more, could just be yours is more laid back.  Congrats on #2!

hi. i'm 17 1/2 weeks with my first pregnancy. my dr said i won't feel movement for a while, especially because the placenta is on top and cushioning me from feeling anything. but i am 95% sure i am feeling movement (don't know cause i've never been in this situation). it started very infrequently, over a week ago, and i would only feel something once or twice and then nothing. i did not feel like gas. i also wouldn't describe it as a flutter... maybe more like a "bloop?" anyways, for the past 3 or 4 days, i always feel something from about 7-10 pm, and only when i'm sitting or laying in bed. i feel it pretty often during that time period. last night i was watching tv, and just had my hand resting on my bely, and i actually felt one slight movement from the outside. i am almost positive it's not gas. the only other thing i can think of is that maybe i feel digestion differently now that things are getting squished and moved around in there.
I guess my question is, am i crazy? or can it be the baby? when you start to feel movement, does it tend to be at the same time everyday?
