My 5 month old was exposed to the flu-Is there anything I can do?

We spent the day with my sister on Sunday.  My mom called last night and said she went to the doctor due to a high fever and aches and they did the flu test on her.  She tested positive.  The rest of my family had the flu shot, but Anna was too young.  They told me that if we all took it we probably wouldn't bring it home to her.  I wasn't thinking of other people we would come in contact with.  Is there anything you know of that I can do or do I just have to wait and see?  Also, does anyone know how long it would take to show up in her?

Flu symptoms can take up to 7-14 days to appear. The best thing is making sure she is well hydrated and eating good. Those are the best defences you can do naturally. Well, there's also rest, but at 5 months how much control do you have over that. You might consider calling your pediatrician for any advice they may have. Good Luck!

Did you get the flu shot prior to giving birth?  My ObGyn and pediatrician both said that the antibodies that I made when I got the flu shot while pregnant would be passed to my son thru my breast milk.  Babies aren't allowed to get the shot themselves until they are at least 6mo. old; and once they do, they'll need to get TWO shots the first time- one month apart.  Many people don't know this, or forget to take their baby back for the second dose, and thus the immunity isn't as effective.
Unfortunately, if your dd was around her grandmother, you'll just have to now wait and see.  Like sroseberry said, just keep her well hydrated and fed, and try to keep her on her normal routine without any stress and lots of rest.  Monitor her temperature, and call her pediatrician if you see any signs of the flu.
I know we had to have a talk with my son's grandparents on both sides prior to flu season, because they didn't realize just how important getting a flu shot would be not only to themselves, but also for their grandson.  My dh had also NEVER gotten one until I got pregnant; now he is usually the one that reminds me when it's time to get mine!
