my son does the same thing he was diagnosed autistic though he was diagnosed when he was 2 and was not speaking at all now he is 5 and speaks a little with the help of speech therapy but we still have a very hard time understanding him it sounds mostly like giberish but the words we do understand are very broken and is usually him repeating something we have said. maybe you can take him and get him tested maybe they will just recommend some speech therapy for your son which will really help alot i still remember when my son spoke his first word which was duck and he was almost 3 years old at the time i nearly cried when i heard him.
