My toddlers speech is broken

by luvmytesa, Aug 02, 2008 03:39PM
My son is almost 3 and only repeats things in "broken speech". He is getting better with his own sentences. He just tends to hesitate in the middle of the sentence now, where he used to be very broken with that as well. The hesitation is almost like a breath. An example of the "broken speech" is that he only repeats one or two words of a verse...ex: "Now I lay me down to sleep" would be "lay me sleep". The rest tends to be last words only. My daughter was very articulate, so I dont really know what is "normal". Anyone have any ideas?

does he primarily repeat things, or does he also speak on his own (without repeating something)?

my son does the same thing he was diagnosed autistic though he was diagnosed when he was 2 and was not speaking at all now he is 5 and speaks a little with the help of speech therapy but we still have a very hard time understanding him it sounds mostly like giberish but the words we do understand are very broken and is usually him repeating something we have said. maybe you can take him and get him tested maybe they will just recommend some speech therapy for your son which will really help alot i still remember when my son spoke his first word which was duck and he was almost 3 years old at the time i nearly cried when i heard him.
