Mysterious 8 week u/s - am I OK?

I just returned from my 8 week ultrasound and I am not sure if my baby is ok.  The ultrasound showed the heartbeat, but not the fetal pole or any part of the baby.  My labs were all OK, the doctor said my uterus was a bit smaller than he'd like, and I have to return in two weeks for a follow up u/s.  He said he didn't know why anything was wrong, only that it was not a normal u/s and there was a good chance it will end in miscarriage.  Has anyone had this happen?  I don't know how there can be a heartbeat but no baby developing.  I haven't had any symptoms of miscarriage so I don't know if I should be getting my hopes up or not.

What was the heartbeat, and did he say your dates were good?

The heartbeat was 107, should've been between 130-140, but he said that wasn't an indicator one way or the other as each baby's heartbeat gets up to the right speed at different rates.

Don't worry yet, although I know it is hard not.  Maybe your dates are just off.  That is very easy to happen.  Heartbeat is great!!  Keep the faith and God bless
