NAME GAME (and Open forum #3 when we need it!)

by Kassimom, May 05, 2004 12:00AM
Okay so I need some ideas and so I am going to steal all of yours! :)

My DH and I cannot agree on a name. For the last baby (m/c Jan) we had decided on Manhattan for a boy and Genevieve for a girl.

This time however, her isn't really considering either and wants Austin for a boy and Hadley for a girl. I am okay (not in love with-but okay) with Hadley. Austin however, is WAY too common here in Texas (go figure, yee-haw).

I still like Manhattan for a boy!! Now I also like Mtilda for a girl-he hates that one.

So my question to you ladies....

What names are you considering for your little peanuts or peanuts to be? Oh and give me your opinion on our names-you will not hurt my feelings! It's not like he/she is named already!

I really don't love any of your names, but please don't be offended. We are going to name our first girl Brianna Clara. Clara is after John's grandma. Jacob's middle name Robert was after my grandpa. For a boy we like Cameron Michael. But John also likes Alexander and call him Alex. The middle name will still be Michael, John's middle name.

Oh please don't apologize for not liking my names! :) That is what this thread is for! I want opinions on my names and ideas for others to consider! I LOVE your first son's name! I also like Briana, that's pretty, except we have a friend with a daughter named that so we can't steal it!! ;)

I am 28 weeks and we dont have a name picked out yet.  I feel like our little boy isn't going to have a name until he is 18.  He are some we are considering but none are really sticking with us.  Carson, Logan, Dalton, Tyler or Colton. Maybe someone will suggest something in this thread that I will like.

I'm struggling with the same issues here.  We had names picked out for a girl, but not a boy.  If it was a girl, she would of been Isabella Avani.  Avani is Asian Idian and means "mother earth or all the elements of Mother earth.  We would of called her Bella or Bell, Bella which means beautiful, so essentially, her name would of meant "beautiful mother earth".  My first born son's name is Grant Adam..if that helps you with boy names at all and my daughters name is Lauren Annette.  We are considering a few names (non of which I am "married" to).  Aaron Alexander, Lucas Wolfgang (that is my husbands influence there).  That is about it.  It will be interesting to hear all the other names.  Good luck.

Hey,
I like Hadley for a girl but I'm not too sure about the rest of the names.......
But each to their own, I know there are many, especially family members that hate the name we have choosen for a boy (which is what the u/s says we are having.
We are yet to pick a girls name, just in case but for a boy we agreeded from day one......

Talon Zane-Xavier

Yes, he is going to have two middle names....we couldn't pick just one.......lol.

My mother said, 'well, I'll just call him Talo because there is no way I can remember that'.......

DH's sister said the poor little guy needs to come and live with her...........lol

And the rest of the family just keeps asking (every time we talk) "what is it you're naming the baby again"..........

We wanted something different that no one else has picked yet. My 9 year old got the bum end of the stick with a very original name.......Jeffery Paul........the only thing we did differently with that was put the 'e' before the 'r'......of course everyone misspells it.

I said we haven't picked a name for a girl but actually we have picked "A" name.....just not a middle name to go with it.

Azurede (As-your-dee) would be the first name but we cant figure out anything to go with it. We also threw around the names 'Enola'.....'Novaliee'.......and 'Azmerelda'......

Try not to let others choose a name for you, it is you that has to like it, not everyone else!!!!!
Hugs,
Vikki

Well, we like Emma (I still want to carry on the name of the last baby we lost) Sheridan

Or my Dh likes Ireland...Not too sure about that one myself. I also like Delaney

Boys are so hard........We like Hudson or Camden, but like I said, I don't know why boys seem to be harder, but it is. Maybe b/c we can't agree on one. Ha!!!!

I like both your names, but I can see how Austin may be quite common in Texas.  I think Dh and I have agreed on Liam Owen for our boy.  Other boys names we like are Thane and Karsten.  My dh has two middle names, so we might throw a second one in there, possibly Corbridge (it's a beautiful town in England between Edinburgh and York that we visited last fall).  For a girl, he liked Shelby (which is what my mom's nickname was for me growing up) and the middle name we liked was Addison.  He keeps joking around with names - with a last name of Brown, it can't be Charles, Clevland, or Buster! :)

by capermom, May 05, 2004 12:00AM
I like for girls:
Emma Olivia  Emmily  Jenna  Jennifer Christen Lauren Hannah
Not sure what we would name a girl though.

I like for boys:
Joshua  Colton  Braylen-my favorite Kyle  Ashton  Lucus  Matthew  Justin  Brandon   Braxton   Chandler

Hope I gave you all some ideas!

Remember what they ryme with or what they sound like in short form. Kids are mean and tease about names and your kid will grow up being mad at you for picking terrible names. LOL Just giving you something to think about!

i love genevieve, manhattan not so sure about it is deffinatly different will you call him manny?
we are naming a girl (rare in our family) amber june marie, june is my dh's grandmother and marie is my grandmother.
for a boy we like... Taige, or i like Gideon.
oh yah no offense but as far a mtilda all i could picture is that girl on the cartoon "Hey Arnold"
good luck and hey surf the net there are some great baby name sites. and they will give you the popularity rating for names in the past few years.
that is how we picked out our sons name, we were going to name him justin but i found a site that said it was ranked #3 in popularity the year before our son was born so i changed my mind.

Please feel free to share the names you like, Western or not. We have considered Hawaiian names, Japanese names, Hispanic names and French names. Please share whatever names you like of any culture. The only culture we are not considering is Italian names because it would just seem ridiculous to me to have a tow-headed, blue eyed boy with a name reminiscent of Mafia! :) But I guess no more ridiculous than that same blonde boy named "Pablo" or "Alfonso" which we have also considered! :)

Well I had picked Lillian, for my grandmother. As it turned out, she was to be born on my grandmother's 97 birthday.  But when I lost her, I decided to name her Grace, that was my Granmother's good friend who died the same day as my little Grace.  So hopefully I will someday get my Lillian and hold her in my arms.  I have always wanted the name Benjamin for a boy, but DH was making a bunch of fun of that name.  I used to go with a guy with the last name West and I thought Benjamin West, that's the famous artists, how cool.

I love Hadley and Manhatten.  Both so different.

WHEN (not if) I have another baby, I like Ava Elise for a girl.
Not quite sure about boy names.  We've been thinking about Aidan.  It means "little fire" and DH is a redhead, go figure! LOL  I also like the names Kort and Colt for boys.  (there's a set of twin boys on Logan's (DS) class and that's their names.  I just thought they were so cute.  I also like the name Kaydence for a girl, but after watching American Wedding, DH says that's no longer an option.  LOL (That was one of the actresses names).

by Learner1, May 05, 2004 12:00AM
I like Manhattan.. not too big on Brianna.. I guess just bc when you know someone by that name and they arent ur fav person! LoL Other then that its a pretty name!  For boys I like Leyton, Preston, Kaydren, Keston, Landon, Ashton, Hayden.. For a girl I Jayden, Zada, Essence, Chase, & Kayden.  I like the names that are kind of out there I guess!  Good Luck!!

I like the name Hadley and Austin also.  My DH had names picked out already and we aren't PG yet.  He likes the name Brooke or Ciani for a girl and Adam for a boy.  However, if we are ever blessed with a baby boy, DH already told the grandfather's that the baby would be named after them so it would be Jose Luis-which is very very common but they were very excited. I like Ariana or Analise or Cassandra for a girl and Ethan or Javier for a boy.

My DH's name is Benjamin.  Please spare you poor little boy!  (Only Kidding)  DH got stuck with the craziest of nicknames. Ben, Benji, Bonji, BEN-JA-MIN. Benji-man, Benji dog, YOU NAME IT!  Besides for the nicknames, I love his name.  Ben is about the only one I can handle, but I catch myself calling him Benji more frequently.  AARRGGGHHHH!

I don't care for Mtilda but I like your other ones.  We had two boys and two girls names picked out when I was pregnant with twins last year.  For the girls they were Emma and Ella and for the boys they were Connor and Colton.  We we get pregnant again it will be Ella or Colton.

To: Remember the Seinfield episode?
...where George decided if he ever had a child it would be named "Seven"?

And then his friends "stole" that name for their expected baby,
so George came up with the name "Soda".

I love Seinfield.

by Kassimom, May 05, 2004 12:00AM
Okay first of all, let me correct myself-it's Matilda! LOL I misspelled it the first time. But it doesn't matter because that name has received the worst reviews!

I LOVE Hayden and Kaydence, but again, names my Dh won't  consider!

Learner-It is so funny that you like Essence for a name. I used to have a step-sister named Essence and I always thought it was so pretty.

But I too want somethin uncommon. My DH's name is Travis and he wanted a Junior. I told him NO WAY. When I call my child's anme I want ONE child to respond, not 20. To prove my point, we went to the horse track one night and I called out "TRAVIS" and sure enough about 10 guys turned towards me with that look of "Do I know you?". No to mention there is a Travis AND an Austin in EVERY K class in my DD's school right now!

And to answer a previous quesiton about wht we would call him if we named him Manhattan, "Man" "Hatter" or "Little Man".

by janscar, May 05, 2004 12:00AM
My DW and I bounced around a bunch of boy names (Jakob, Xavier, Elijah), but we had a girl and named her Madelyn Marie.  The female name was always given, cuz it was a powerful female name (when she grows up to be president or something lie working for Donald Trump)

You've gotta stick with Manhatten.. I LOVE THAT NAME! I had never heard that name before.  And now that I know what you would call him as nicknames, I think it is absolutly "adorable but tough guy"!  LOVE IT!

Other names for girl that I like are Immogen, Patterson, Kennedi, Gracie and Ashlynn.
But I also LOVE Hadley.  TOO CUTE!

by blondie72, May 05, 2004 12:00AM
Oh come on you guys.  I feel so common now.  We are going with Christopher if it is in fact a boy.  I have always liked Savannah for a girl but with our last name she would sound like a subdivision and I just couldn't live with that.  DH likes Christopher for a boy and Krista for a girl.  Kassimom I agree with the other posts I do not really care for Manhattan but Genevieve is cute.  I also look at it like this.  It is your child and you have to say that name a hundred times a day so if you think you are ok with that then pick whatever you want.  Good luck on finding a name.

You might be right about Benjamin.  My DH was saying BEND OVER.  Sometimes he is hard to handle.  I made a hugh fuss, years ago when my sister tried to use that name, now  I think I am stuck with it, if I get pg again, hoping and wishing, I will have to use it.

Hi there,
Adam and I decided on names for our first born girl which will be Galexsus Rebecca Paige and for a boy Justis Bryan Cameron.  Were all about unique first names and then giving too normal middle ones so that they can choose which one they want if they dont like there first.

I just thought I'd toss in another male name for you to ponder.  My 14 month old son is named Sullivan.  We call him Sully.  WE get a lot of compliments on the name.  We wanted something different but not too weird.  I'm a middle school teacher and my problem with picking out names was that I can associate so many names with students that I have or had.  You think to yourself I can't name my son/daugher that because it reminds you of some of your "angels" that you have had.  Best of luck and remember to take naming advice lightly.  I think coming up with a name was one of the most challenging parts of pregnancy.  And I was forced to deliver without an epidural!!  ;-)

Capermom:  I love those names, too.  As a matter of fact, I loved them so much that I named my daughters with them:  Emma Elizabeth is 4 yo, and Olivia Mae is 6 yo.  I also have a Rebecca Yvonne she is 15 yo.

Kassimom:  A name should be considered carefully from all possible angles.  The name itself should be easy to spell if possible or at least the short version, the possible nicknames should be reviewed to avoid any unecessary critisism from school peers.  I love old-fashioned names, like Matilda.  Great short versions like Mati or Tilly or Tillie.  Easy to spell and hard to make fun of for kids in school.

Regards,

Shelly

i totally agree with the looking at the names from all angles. make sure it sounds ok when you are yelling the entire name, you know does it roll off your tounge. there is nothing worse than screwing up your speech in the middle of yelling at your child for flushing the entire(wooden) alphabet down the toilet.

oh yah one more thing...if you pick a biblical name PLEASE make sure you know where it came from....unlike the woman in my lamaz class..her daughter was surprised with a boy (they thought the u/s said a deffinate girl) so she said they wanted to name him a strong biblical name.....so they named him Cane.
i had to even check with my pastor, i've never read the bible cover to cover so i wasn't sure if maybe cane turned good later on, but he said no that he too thought it was an odd choice if they wanted a "strong biblical name"

My DH and I have decided on for a boy:
Evan Luis (middle name for DH)
For a girl:
Victoria Rose (middle name for my sister and great grandma)
and
Meghan Elizabeth (my middle name is Elizabeth and her initials would be MEG)

Hoping I get to use one or all of those names one day!!!!

Just getting back to you about yesterday, the thread closed on us!

My dr. said that it happens sometimes.  Mainly when you have a weak spot in your muscles already.  I guess it is simular to what a hernia (my own analysis) would be.  I had never heard of it and there isn't much out on the web.  She didn't seem concerned as far as the baby's health, but did seem more interested in correcting it after the little man is here.  She said we could discuss it after he's born, not to worry about the details now.

by Still a mom, May 05, 2004 12:00AM
I have always wanted a son named Jacob Robert. I had a friend in school named Robert Jacob and was called Jake, so since then I wanted to name my son Jacob. When we settled on Jacob we were going to use the middle name Michael, but decided after finding out Jacob was gone to change it to Robert because he was buried on top on my grandpa, Robert. I told John that is what I wanted to name my son forever. I now have a son named Jacob Robert.

I also have always like Chasity Jean Nicole for a girl.

Other names are:
Girls- Elizabeth, Mikayla(But my niece is Mikaiah so that is pretty similar), Kylie, and Rebecca (and call her Becca) I love names that can be shortened for nick names.
Boys- Zachary, Issac, Landon, and Josiah(but John's cousin used that)

by Kassimom, May 05, 2004 12:00AM
OH you SOOO don't have to worry about me choosing a biblical name!

Well, so far I really like all the names presented to me but I still LOVE Manhattan. As for kids teasing him, you know, kids tease about everything from hair color to freckles.

My name is Tonia and I have had more than a few looks from people about the spelling. (I have also had people ask boyfriends who have never met me if I am black, this does not offend me.)I guess what bothers me most about my own name is the way I got it. My mother says it was the one name her parents hated the most. Nice, huh? Although, I learned from it that changing the spelling of a name can change the person. I am glad I spelled my DD's name with a K instead of a C.

My concern is not what kids are going to say, but how will it look on a business card 30 yrs from now? Someone might look at an Austin and nothing special comes to mind. But if they see the name Manhattan...now wouldn't YOU want to meet that man?

by ourbabydreams, May 05, 2004 12:00AM
Hi girls. We have already chosen our little girls name. It will be Emily Nicole. But if she had turned out with boy parts we had chosen a few. Takoda, Colton, Cory, Calib. Yes I love the C names I do not know why. Takoda is a family name my great great grandfather. I love all the names yall have come up with. Oh and we realized that with our last name her initials are going to be END but I have finally said who cares lol. Hopefully she will not get teesed too much. My kids now are Jacklyn Christine, Jordan Paul, and Joshua Mickael. Here are my siblings kids names. Jacob, Elizebeth, Joanie, Jay D, Jeremy, Allison. Have a great day girls. Going to go Mothers Day shopping. Ok my mother and me shopping too he he.

Great names girls

Well we are having trouble with a boys name too.  When I was pregnant with my DD and 100% sure I was having a boy (couldn't tell on ultrasound) we had Vincent David picked out my husband's name is David Vincent.  During my pregnancy I had a dream about a girl and the name was Sienna (or you could spell it Sienna) and I woke DH up in the middle of the night to tell him and it was the first girl name we could agree on.  Well later after I picked the name I had found out that Toyota was coming out with their minivan the Toyota Sienna. So we weren't going to use it but I decided to keep the name but changed the spelling to a C instead of an S.  A couple months after having her I found out that it is a little town in Italy and it is also a color (earth tone like a brownish red).  We have an art school in the city I live in and a student from there told me that they assign meanings to colors and the meaning for Sienna is Strength of the Earth.  So after all this babbling, my daughter is Cienna Jalyn.  We have a very common last name, Smith, so I also like something completely unique.

This time around we have not picked a boys name but love the name Kearra (not sure how exactly we are going to spell it)Jade for a girl.

To: NANAKAY § MOMTTC!!!!! PLEASE READ
Sorry O/T (off topic).

I have a question for those who are familar w/ Clomid. My doc gave me a 6 month supply of clomid (50mg) and well DH is leaving next month to Iraq for 12+ months, so we only have 2 cycles to concieve.  I'm happy I just got clomid as it may help increase my chances and started to think, why not take 100mg? for these 2 rounds, to up chances???? Would that be okay to begin at 100mg?

I've seen alot on internet about women starting at 100mg 1st round and also read about women who did 50mg and didn't even ovulate on that, but went up to 100mg and did ovulate. Well, I haven't ovulated in past 2-3 cycles so I'm thinking 100mg would be good.  I really don't have the time to try 50mg, and if it doesn't work go up to 100mg. I ONLY HAVE 2 CYCLES to conceive.

What do you ladies think? NANAKAY, MOMTTC- you guys out there!?! Please I need to advice.
