NUK pacifiers

Do any of you have an opinion on NUK pacifiers? I have heard they are not good for breastfeeding infants. One reason may be due to the fact it teaches the infants tongue to flatten instead of curve like it should during nursing. I was hoping some of you would be able to help me and perhaps if you know of any studies I can read I would appreciate it.  Thanks,Mia3

I don't know about the Nuk pacifier either, my ds doesn't care for them.  Playtex makes "Binkies" and they are made just like the shape of a breast persay...he loves them!  All he will take.  They have them at Food Lion and Wal-Mart.  They are kind of expensive though.  2 for $4.49 I believe.  But the shape is perfect and he loves them.  He was breastfed in the beginning so....you could try them and see what you think.

I don't know of any studies but my DD was addicted to pacifiers until we "lost" them all last year, she was using the regular nuk once and she was breastfed until she was 15mo old

I've also read that they think a pac can help with SIDS not ocurring due to the child sucking while sleeping, so I bf & my little takes a pac (it's hard in the begining bc they have a hard time keeping it in there mouths (he's 5wks)but he'll get the hang of it before too much longer, my other ds I did the same & we got rid of it before he was 9mo.

I also pump (ds was born on a wed. by sat I had milk so on sun I began pumpimg & gave ds his first bottle as soon as we were home) in my opinion babies do better from the get go with all the diff nips. Both my sons never had a problem nursing or taking a bottle or a pac, just the pac takes a little longer bc w/ them they suck tend to harder & it blows it out of there mouths sometimes in hte begining :)  I just hear too many people say they can't get there babies to take this or that when they have followed the books rules on waiting. But hey whatever works :) LOL

I fell in love with the hospital pacifiers (Soothies) and purchased a bunch online. We used those exclusively the first couple of months until the baby we care for was used to eating from the bottle, etc. Then we started branching out to other brands like NUK.

I used NUK with my daughter from 2 weeks old. She was good at nursing by then. She nursed past 18 mos.
