Napping

Napping

My baby is now 6 months old and is a great night-time sleeper.  He usually sleeps from 830pm till 630 am.  However, napping is another question.  He has to be rocked to sleep and will only sleep on me or in his swing (without it moving).  I've tried weening him to the crib but as soon as I'm done rocking, slowly put him in the crib he wakes up crying, will not go back to sleep.  I've been able to put his bouncer in his room and now transition from rocking to bouncer and will nap there.  I've tried letting him cry a little, but usually after he wakes up from me putting him down, he'll cry then just start playing with his toes, etc.  I know he is exhausted and is probably only napping 1-2 hours all day.  Any suggestions to get him to nap in the crib would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Consider yourself lucky with the nighttime thing .... My DD is 6 months too and she still wakes up 3-4 times a night, hates naps. She gets so overtired she turns intoa monster yet she doesn't want to miss anything.
She used to fall asleep in the swing all the time but now we call it a stay because she leans forward so that it doesn't swing and she tries to escape!
Good luck!

It's so funny.  I just posted the same question a few days ago, it's under "napping nightmare".  Here's what I wrote:
"DD is almost 5 mos (in 10 days). Lately she's become sooooo difficult. She will sleep 6-7 hours at night but does not nap during the day. The most I can get her to nap is 3 hours the whole day. I'm so stressed out, I don't know what to do with her. I end up putting her on the swing, she falls asleep there and the second I try to move her to the crib, she wakes up and starts crying and there is no way she'll fall back asleep. I used to put her in our bed, give her the breast and she's fall asleep that way. I would gently crawl out of bed (putting the pillows around her so she doesn't fall) but now she's gotten smart and doesn't let go of my breast and if I try to pull it out gently, she wakes up. I can't do anything b/c of this. I'm gonna learn to walk on air with this child. Help! What's going on with her???"
I understand what you're going through.  Someone suggested to start a routine so that DD knows that it's time to go to sleep.  I've got to start training her to fall asleep on her own.  I want to buy the book called "the no crying sleeping solution" and read it.  Hopefully I'll find it helpful :)
