Need a dress that hides my stomach

by Me2mommy2b, Aug 08, 2007 11:12AM
I need suggestion on a dress that would hide my stomach.  We're going to 3!! weddings in September and we haven't told our friends yet that we're pregnant (and I won't be 12 weeks by then yet) so I need a dress that hides my belly somewhat.  (Yes, I already have a bump b/c it's my 2nd pregnancy).  All the dresses that I have are too tight for me already (and the first wedding is in less than 4 weeks so I imagine I'll be bigger by then).  Any suggestion?

Get something with spaghetti straps and an empire waistline.  It will draw the eye to your face, shoulders and chest and away from your tummy.  Also, go with knee length and get sexy shoes.  No one will notice your belly,.

Thanks, i was thinking of empire wasteline myself.  Are their stores that sell fancy dresses for pregnant women?  Was just wondering.

I actually got a beautiful dressy maternity dress that I wore to 2 weddings at Tyme Maternity.  it did not look really Maternityish.  I wore it before I was showing and just recently at 7 months.

most of my maternity clothes don't look like maternity clothes. i am still wearing maternity (3 weeks post partum) and everyone comments on how wonderful it is that i fit into regular clothes already. current trends (at least this summer) are flattering for pregnant people, so you have 2 options- you can buy a dress at a maternity store, or you may have more luck just shopping in a regular store and buying a dress like anxious described. when i was 32 weeks, i had to go to a christening. i wore a dress that was not maternity and have to say it looked fantastic. i am going to a wedding in 2 weeks, and imagine that my remaining bump is probably what yours is now. i am going to wear a dress that is empire wasted, and then flows out loosely. i actually bought it before i got pregnant (real cheap at tj maxx, i think) and never got to wear it. you may have to buy a size or 2 bigger than your normal and alter it in places where it doesn't fit.

I think we are so lucky right now that the trends are these shirts that billow out under the boobs, so everyone looks a little pregnant. I saw that the maternity stores have some really cute dresses. I thought I would be pregnant from my last one during my class reunion and was going to go back to Motherhood Maternity or Mimi Maternity to buy a dress. I don't know what stores you have up there, but I would check out Old Navy and Target here. Good Luck! I am sure you will find something cute that no one will know the difference.

The weddings I'm going to are very formal so I have to find something that's more on a formal side :(

I bet you can find something formal with an empire waist, just in a bigger size at Macy's. They have more formal stuff. Do they have a maternity section there? I haven't made it far enough into a pregnancy yet to know where all the great maternity clothes are. You are probably just going to have to do some hunting. I am sure you will find something.

I have the perfect dress for you!!! (As weird/random as that sounds)  I went to 2 weddings in the beginning of my pregnancy and needed somethign to hide the belly...I was actually 16 weeks and you couldn't tell I was pregnant.  It was black, floorlength, halter, and it's flowy so it hides the belly!  I got it at Annie Sez...which i never go to...but decided to try it that day - good thing I did.  I bought the dress a size bigger to really hide the belly - and had it shortened.  It was perfect!

I also wore a black, low-cut empire-waist dress to a wedding, in my 5th month, and unless you looked really hard you would not know I was pregnant.  It was from Motherhood.  The neckline was a deep vee and really eye-popping with pregnancy boobs.  It would not have had to be black, if you prefer more of a warm-weather look.

The nice thing about today's fashion is the "baby doll" look.  You could def. get a baby doll type dress from a fashion store now... I wore the baby doll shirts through out the beginning of my pregnancy and no one was the wiser.

i just bought one on amazon.  it is a 50's style halter dress.  they have 3 different styles.  it doesnt come flat on your belly and i got it for 35 bucks.  stretchy material.  read the size chart though.  i am usually a small and had to order a medium.  the style is nice and flattering.  for a key word type in rockabilly and then click on apparel.  :)  it was my speed anyway.  good luck

Thank you for your suggestions.  I will def try looking for the dresses you're talking about.  Jif-what's going on with you?  How are your levels?

You could always check out the bridal shops, sometimes they have off the rack dresses that are marked way down that are formal and will hide your pg....when in doubt always go for the black classic looking dress.  When I was pg for my first I found this wonderful dress at Sears in their maternity department.  It looked like any other style Sheath dress with just a tie in the back to make it tighter or looser--and you could always wear a jacket or sweater over it if you are a little more self concious---

You could always check on line, there are a few places that are "high end, up scale" for formal maternity attire.

Or you can shop in the larger women's department.  With my wedding dress, even though I wasn't trying to hide that I was 9 months pregnant, I just got a larger size and had it modified the best we could.

Let me tell you how much of a bad patient I am.  I cancelled my 2nd dr appt and I also cancelled my 2nd blood test.  I feel fine.  I stopped bleeding and honestly, the first appt he didnt even do an internal cuz he didnt want to risk infection.  I know I passed all my clots and the first blood test was so low that I didnt feel the need to go back.  I am now 9 days passed the original day of the miscarriage.  I am just praying that I 'o' this month and if I dont that is ok too.  I am really anxious just to get started again.  How you feeling these days???
