Need or dont Need??

Need or dont Need??

I went to get my baby registry done yesterday(have a baby shower in 2 weeks) This being my first I was sooo confused with all the things they have out for babies. Just wondering if they really need all those things on the checklist the first few months? Can you ladies tell me some things which will be necessary the first 6-8 months. Some things I registered for which I am not too sure about...

       whirlpool tub
       monitor
       boppy
       travel system
       odor eliminating diaper pail
       bassinet
       crib
       changing table
       swing
       jumper
       activity pad
       steam sterilizer
       walker
       portable high chair
       play pen
       safety kit

Don't know what the whirlpool tub is-- is that for baby or momma?
Definitely a baby monitor for during naps when you aren't in the room with baby.
Loved my boppy for the first several months, not just for nursing, but for before baby could sit up alone.
Don't know what a travel system is-- is that a stroller that a carseat snaps in to? If so, yes for walks or doctor visits, but most of the time I just snapped his carrier in on shopping carts at stores and stuff.
Diaper pail.  Definitely!  Love my "diaper genie" and how it seals off those stinky diapers.
Bassinet... well, we have one, but we opted to co-sleep instead after the first few days.
Changing table.  Couldn't live without it... I'm only bummed that mine will no longer be usable after he reaches 25lbs.  Guess we'll be stuck changing him on the floor then.
You'll LOVE the swing... it calmed my son on many a colicy nights.
Never had a jumper... just used the swing.
Activity pads are nice until baby learns to roll and crawl. Work great with a boppy on top.
Didn't bottle feed, so never needed a sterilizer.
Walkers are nice, but the latest researchh has shown that babies who spend significant time in walkers actually take longer to learn to walk on their own.
Never had a "portable" high chair.  We just bought the disposable highchair covers/placemats off of ebay and used the public provided high chairs at restaraunts/fast food places, or, until he was old enough I either left him in his carrier or sat him in my lap.
Didn't use a "play pen", as we had a Pack-n-Play.  He is only now using the pack-n-play since about 8 months.
Safety Kit?  Is that a kit for making your home baby proof?  Or is it a first aid type of kit for baby?  If it's for baby proofing, it'll come in handy eventually-- but you really won't have to worry for the first few months until baby is old enough to start exploring his environment.  If a first aid type- yes you will need the nasal aspirator, nail clippers, thermometer, etc.

Other things our son liked was his Ocean Wonders Crib toy (plays music, lights, fish "swim"), portable swing (for trips to the relatives), kick toys (kicks a bar and toys spin above him), bouncy/vibrating chair, activity bar that attaches to baby carrier (for when in the stores to keep him entertained), baby books, lots of teethers, rubber duckies for his baby tub, and LOTS and LOTS of burp cloths (we used cloth diapers for burp cloths as they were thicker/more absorbent.)
Good luck!

I use a sterilizer because we have well water, but otherwise I wouldn't.  The only other thing on your list I'd not bother with is the whirlpool tub.

If you're getting a new pack n play, you should need a bassinet as the pack n plays have the bassinet in them. I used that until DS was about 6 weeks, then moved to his crib as he was getting to heavy for the bassinet. Don't have an odor elimiating diaper pail either. I have one from WalMart that was like $10. Works like a charm and I don't have to buy "special" bag refills.
I also have a bouncy seat that DS really likes.

whirlpool tub -- not needed, nice but only a want imo
       monitor -- Needed
boppy -- I found a normal pillow to work better for positioning
travel system -- Car seat and stroller, definately a must - Lilith is 10 days old and I've used mine twice already.
odor eliminating diaper pail -- helpful, quite!
bassinet -- Won't use much past the first few weeks.
       crib -- Need
changing table -- Depends on your space, for us we use the top of a dresser, a bed with a pad under Lilith, or a lap.
swing -- This can be a life saver for those difficult nights.
jumper -- Johnny jumper?  Hanging from the ceiling/ door frame?  My older kids loved these.
activity pad -- Personally I'd rather put down a bright blanket with toys or whatever, but to each his own.
steam sterilizer -- By my 3rd child (Lilith) I learned that sterilizing everything wasn't needed.  So this was excessive.
walker -- careful of the type you get, these are great beyond 4 months
portable high chair -- if this is the kind that attaches to a table, these are really nice for resturaunts and makes sure that the baby isn't sharing nasty germs with others.
play pen -- Without this I'd have been lost!  I have a play yard that turns into a bassinet, it is really nice to have.
safety kit -- Depends what is in it, is this for baby proofing?
