Neurologist prescribed hydrocodone. Is it as safe as he says?

Hi girls!

I am 16 weeks pregnant and have been having pretty much a steady migraine.  My OB sent me to a neurologist and he said I was having vascular migraines and they would probably go away in about three months.  My question is he presribed hudrocone a prescription pain killer for the migraines and said that it was perfectly safe.  Has anyone ever had to this early in pregnancy and everything turned out ok?  I an totally resigned to suffering for the better of my child if this medication could be harmful in anyway.  Please respond!

Nancy

hydrocodone (Vicodine) is okay for how long you are.  I had surgery 5 weeks ago, and everything was fine (my baby has been on so many types of drugs I worry at times).  Also they have a few other things they can give you, which are safer and similar to Excedrine (without the Asprin).  If you are worried about the hydrocodine (which can become addictive), as your doctors about that.

When I was pregnant my Dr. prescribed that to me for migranes (migraines) also. It's perfectly safe. But it is addictive so be careful how much and how long you take it.
I'm sorry you are suffering!!

I had migraines every 2-3 days from 12-18 weeks. Then I started taking magnesium and riboflavin (B2) every day and I haven't had one since. I did not want to take narcotics prescribed by my OB, so I talked to a midwife and she suggested those supplements. Now it could be just a coincidence (sp?), but I am not taking any chances, I am so glad to not have migraines right now. One other thing I did/do is if i feel a headache coming on I drink one a latte/or other caffienated beverage and take ibrupofen and tyenol and so far they haven't turned into migraines. I am not trying to discourage you from taking narcotics as my OB assured me they are safe, but they will just dull the pain and this may take it away. If you want to try this post to me and I will look up the dose, and it is specfic type of magnesium you have to buy from a vitamin supplement store I think. Good Luck!
