I actually have a question about progesterone. It was sort of asked yesterday but not sure if it was clear. If I've had one successful pg over 2 years ago and a m/c 2 months ago, can I have developed low progesterone since my first PG? Does this ever happen or is this something that doesn't change? I'm very worried about another MC and my doc thought I was nuts for even asking about my progesterone.

Happy new year chicky.... As for the prog I am on chlomid and my doc says it must be over 15 mine was 31 and decreased after a week down to 18 and I m/c. I have had two normal pregnancies with no problems and my doc says that some times this happens and even with age you can get a decrease. But most people I have talked to or read about if they have low prog doc will give supp prog. This has seemed to work for most, I dont even remember anyone ever saying they used it and m/c, someone else can answer to that if it has happened to them.... comments needed. As far as I know there have been no scientific evidence to support prog supp but if it works for most then hey lets try. I have not read about any side effects that would effect baby and the developement. I know it is prog supp for me next time. I do have a question as well for anyone... When do you actually start to take prog when you get a positive test or when you get your prog checked cant remember which day? You figure it would need to be checked every few days to make sure it is staying high. Hope that helped you and hopefully someone else can clarify some other things I wrote about for us.  Baby dust to us all!!!

I have been on Progesterone for 6 pregnancies. I have 3 children, and an 5 weeks pregnant now. I had one miscarriage on Progesterone that was doomed from the start. I started bleeding within an hour of my positive HPT. My doctor even increased my Progesterone dosage, but I miscarried at 6 weeks. Progestrone did not delay me from miscarrying a prgnancy that could not be saved.

I also had a miscarriage on Progesterone that we believe was a healthy pregnancy. I did not start the Progesterone until 6 weeks, I was only on 50mg per day, and I was taking the pills which my body does not absorb well.

Now, I take 200 mg. supositories each day starting as soon as I ovulate. I continue until my period is due, then take a HPT. If it is negative, I quit the Progesterone and have a cycle. If it is positive, I stay on the Progesterone until 14 weeks.

We are keeping our fingers crossed for this new pregnancy.

I hope this helps.

hi there: happy new year 2006. hope you year has started well in 2006. in regards to progesterone, it is suppose to sustain pg, but no always.  once you find out you are pg, then your dr. will be taking your blood test to confrim pregnacy. then go back every other day for a few days to make sure that your "levels" are doubling each time. it suppose to at least double every other day. I am on progesterone now (1ml)/ daily. so far, so good.

is prog. suppositories different from taking provera, which i know is a synthetic type of prog.?

by Morgan277, Jan 01, 2006 12:00AM
I was on progesterone for my second pregnancy but miscarried (not having to do with the progesterone though).  My dr. said I have low progesterone but it wasn't picked up with my first pregnancy OR maybe I didnt even have it.  Not sure if you get it over time or what.  I do know your body changes so much after a pregnancy so I think its possible that you can get lower progesterone.

With progesterone, you are supposed to take it after O until bfn. Or from O to bfp to about 12 or 13 weeks PG.

HELP!!!!!!!!
THis is going to sound silly but I need someone's advice on how to deal with this! My DH and I were trying to conceive for the past 2 years and were unsuccessfull. I have severe endo and he had a reversal done twice. We had no luck conceiving so on Nov 22 I had an abdominal hysterectomy. Which I feel 10x's better because of it. My problem is my younger sister just found out that she's pregnant. She lives at home with my parents yet and her and her boyfriend are broken up. He's also the father of the child. Since my Dh and I tried for so long and were unable to get pregnant and just like that my younger sister gets pregnant I'm trying to be supportive but I'm finding it very very hard to be involved. Is this just me being too selfish? HELP ANYONE!!!!!!!!! I don't know how I'm going to get through the next 8 months with her!!!

I think that is a very natural and common feeling. I have friends who have gotten ab hyst and can not conceive for obvious reasons... However, someone close to them has and they cant seem to be happy for them. It is a difficult time to begin with and without the other being preg it is heart renching enough. Just try to be strong and maybe try to take on the job of maybe making sure this baby coming to you gets spoiled rotten, once you hold him or her in your arms I think your realize how special of a gift she is given you. I neice or newphew.

YOu're very right!!! I'm trying to be strong for her sake but it's very difficult right now! Thanks for the advice!

Question for Faith2006 and Amy G.- I was wondering how long after you stopped taking the progesterone when you got a BFN until your period started. I always have 28 day cycles and this month was the first month I have done progesterone after an IUI. I was suppose to start my period yesterday and took a test and it was negative so I stopped the progesterone but I was just wondering about how long until my period will start. If you could email a response to me at ***@**** I would really appreciate it. Thanks. -Kristin
