No one can answer my question!!!

by carolyn55806, Oct 14, 2004 12:00AM
Hello,

My last period was on September 10th. I found out I am pregnant on October 10th. My hCG level was 50. They told me it was low and I went back and had another blood test three days later. The levels were then 108. Now they want me to come in for another blood test on Monday. I can't figure out how pregnant I actually am (meaning did I ovulate later than I thought) and if these levels are low or in the normal range. Please help!

Your HCG Levels should double every 48 hours until you get closer to 12weeks then it takes up to 72 hours and levels off. They are probably concerned because your HCG was 50 and then three days later it had only doubled. Sometimes it's a sign of a non viable pregnancy meaning you may miscarry but then again some women's numbers start out low and they end up having healthy pregnancies...sounds like your doctor is just monitoring you pregnancy making sure everything is okay.....As long as you have no spotting or heavy cramping I'm sure you are just fine.

there was actually a discussion on "normal" hcg levels yesterday.

and yes it is very possible that you ovulated late making your #'s a little lower than most....they seem to be going up just fine. so unfortunately i'm afraid it si a waiting game to see what happens.
good luck

One other thing about the whole hCG numbers doubling every 48 hours. I have just read in numerous places that it's more realistic that the numbers should double ABOUT every two days...meaning anywhere from 2- 2 and 3/4 days. Anyone else heard that?

I put your #'s in and they show to be doubling 64.8 hrs.

I put it in as 50 at the first draw and 108 at the second with a days between as 3.

Doubling time can be between 48-72 hrs.  Everyone is different. You have to try not to worry. I know it is very hard.  But you will know more with the next results. There are women that have had successful pregnancies with #'s starting low.

Hey, just wanted you to know my numbers were not doubling the first week either!  The dr told me my numbers were fine though as long as they go up 50%..  So on day 2 your numbers would have been 75 and on day three would have only needed to be 93.75 and you were 108!!!  So don't worry, hang in there.  I bet you will be just fine :)))

My numbers are now more than doubling, but it just takes things time to get moving.  that first week is so unpredictable!

Good luck!!  and don't worry :)  momttc
