Not looking good...waiting for the inevitable

Not looking good...waiting for the inevitable

Just got the results for my 3rd blood test. After hcg levels rising from 31,000 to 39,000 last week, they have now fallen to 37,000 which I guess is an indication of things to come. How long after hcg levels start to fall could one expect to m/c?

I am now just hoping and praying that it happens naturally and I dont need a d&c. This was our first baby and eagerly waited for so its really disappointing but I guess I just have to keep faith in God and make myself believe that this is for my best.

Is a d&c painful? Is natural m/c painful? I havent had any discharge or clotting so we were still hopeful but I guess with falling hcg levels, now there is no hope.

I'm so very sorry that you are going through this.  I had 3 miscarriages last year and it was awful.  My heart goes out to you.

I don't know if D&C's are painful or not.  I miscarried naturally with all three of mine.  To answer your question... yes, it hurts a lot to miscarry naturally.  You have very intense cramping in the abdomen and in your back.  It will be very uncomfortable and there will be a lot of blood and tissue.  The good news is that usually this passes by fairly quickly.  My severe cramping would only last a few hours and then was replaced with period like cramps for a couple days.  It hurts physically and emotionally, but in the end it's better than a D&C because you will not have the threat of scar tissue or other problems that may occur with the procedure.  However I know there is a risk of infection if your body doesn't miscarry naturally within a couple weeks of the loss.  For this reason your Dr. may tell you that a D&C is the way to go.

I am very sorry for your loss.  You must've been prety far along because your numbers were pretty high.  I wish you all the best in the future.

I'm really sorry.  I know how you feel with 6 mcs in the past 2 years.

I had D&Cs for 5 of mine, one was a chemical preg and I just got a late period.  I have not found D&Cs painful, physically at least.  For four of them I only had a valium pill.  I've felt a pinch when they numbed my cervix, but nothing after that.

For me, the closure was worth it.  Plus, my doc says 1 out of 5 mcs will end up with a d&c anyway.

Wishing you the best.

I had both first 2 natural mc, then the last in sept. was at I thought 10 weeks but after u/s determined baby stopped growing at 7 with that one very heavy bleeding ended up in er, they said my cervix was wide open, and needed a dc next morn. not as much cramping as with natural but I bled for 2 weeks on and off. periods now heavy and feel more crampy than before the d/c.

How far along are you?

If you do opt for a D&C they may be able to determine the cause.

Again, I'm really sorry.  I think I am actually in the same boat.  Just waiting for the dreaded phone call from my doc...

I am so sorry you are going through this.  Please remember everything happens according to Gods plan, and with time you will feel a little better. Don't give up hope though, until you know for sure.  I haven't had a D & C, but miscarried naturally and mine wasn't that bad.  However I wasn't very far along.  It is a personal decision which one you choose, but if you choose D & C please wait until you know 100% before you do it.  There are many stories of ladies here who have waited it out and ended up with wonderful pregnancies and beautiful babies.  My prayers and thoughts are with you.

Well according to my dates, I would be around 8 1/2 weeks but my last u/s showed just a gestational sac and yolk sac but no embryo or heartbeat. I'm waiting for my doc to call too and see what she recommends - a d&c or wait for it to happen naturally. Since I havent had any pain or bleeding or spotting till now, she just might recommend a d&c. But considering my hcg levels have started dropping, I feel my body has started realising that its not going to happen so I think I should just wait it out...

I just feel like waiting to see if I naturally miscarry. Am I being stupid? Should I just get the d&c and get it over with?

All the best to you. I think its still too unreal for me which is why I'm taking it so well. I am disappointed, yes, but I'm not as shattered as I was last week when we didnt see a heartbeat.

God is good isnt He, I mean through all we go through we can always turn to Him and he already knows our heart, He only has the best for us we just dont know what that is yet, I will pray that he gives you what you and your DH desperately want, Im sure He will.
