Not quite colic, but cries a lot

Not quite colic, but cries a lot

I am a new mom, Logan is 7 weeks old and he cries quite a bit.  His pediatrician says he is not quite colicky, but nothing I do seems to soothe him.  I've tried rocking, walking, singing, music, swaddling, baths, car rides, diaper changing, feeding, tummy time, massage...and loads of other things but none of it works.  I've also tried letting him cry it out and he can go for 45 minutes at a time (which I have to admit hurts me probably more than it hurts him). Anyone have any suggestions that worked for them???/

Let me guess, he cries mostly in the evenings?  My son started that at 6 weeks until 3 months of age.  I called him an evening fusser and he cried mostly between the hours of 5 pm to 9 pm.  I called that the witching hours.  They can't really tell you why they cry during those hours, however, they think it's due to overstimulation from the day or gasiness.  My son cried once for 4 hours straight.  Sometimes there is nothing we can do, I would carry my son in his bjorn mostly or try giving a soothing bath at that time.  I used to dim the lights and carry him and put soft music on.  Sometimes it worked and sometimes it didn't but he would stop eventually.  It's hard on us because we want to help our babies but sometimes nothing helps, just stay close to your baby, comfort him the best you can.  The good news is, once he hits 3 months he will be fine.

Aw, I feel for you.  My boys both had colic, I can understand how rough it is when they cry.  The above gal has some words of wisdom- can be gas, overstimulation...can be anything.  My boys were awful in the evenining & all night.  I would dread the bad hours of the night.  I found shushing in Cam's ear helped some, I had to walk too & gently bounce for hours.  Carson never calmed down.  Have they adjusted formula or try anything for acid reflux?  Both of these adjustments helped some with Cam.  People also try Gripe water, but I was always too scared to try homeopathic stuff so I never did.  Carson lasted about 5 months, Cam got better closer to 4 than 5 months, but was still fussy in the evening.  I hope you get a happier baby soon, you're not alone.  If it gets bad, you can always have Dad or someone cuddle baby while you take a break- they can sense fear!  They know when you get stressed & it sets them off more.  Lots of hugs coming your way.
