Now that I am a mother.. I have a greater respect for my mom...

Isn't it funny how once you become a mother .. you suddenly realize how much your own mother means to you and you realize just how much she has done for you..   You realize just how much she now has done for you.. i guess for me now that I have a daughter of my own .. i feel like i can relate to my own mother much better.. my mom and i have had a turbulent relationship to say the least.. and i am not saying that i didn't respect her before I had a daughter.. it just seems more of a deeper respect since I now have my own daughter.. so this mother's day is going to be especially special for me.

And I have also noticed that since becoming a mother my views on certain things have changed.. I obviously knew my life was gonna change when i had a child but i never thought it would change so dramatically. Everyone has commented saying how i seem so much more mature and like i finally got things together and i gotta tell you that feels so good :)  So becoming a mother has made me a better person or at least I think so:)

Fortunately for me, I didn't have to become a mother to realize what my mother means to me.

Motherhood definitely changes a person and I'm glad that it has been a positive change for you.

Happy Mother's Day to you!

Actually, my respect levels for my Mother have changed and are in good shape now, but it wasn't that way at first. My Mother and I didn't see eye to eye on many things and she wasn't the best Mom. When my girls were little, my respect and opinion of her actually went down and we had lots of disagreements and months where we didn't talk at all. Our relationship was really strained and most of it was because having my little girls made me not understand how she could've been the type of Mother she was to me. She just wasn't the type of Mother that I chose to be to my girls. But, now that my girls have gotten older and we have had our own sets of trials and tribulations with our relationships I respect my Mother more and understand how hard parenting can be at times and also understand that as a Mother myself, we don't always make the right or perfect choices and we don't always have proud moments. We are human and the older I get the more I appreciate my Mom for who she is. It has taken a long time though!

no offense but now that I am pregnant I have lost some respect for some people including parents.  Mainly because all I get is unsolicited advice that I completely dissagree with and my MIL in particular has this holier than thou attitude as if she was and will always be the best mother EVER and nothing that we do would ever compare to the type of mother she is/was. In other words, I feel like we are being treated like helpless children.  Also like jenshim said, there are things that I think about and notice now that although I know that my parents struggled to raise us, I think that I would like to be a different kind of parent and they don't understand that.
Who knows, maybe my mind will change once the baby is born.
But I'm glad for you,  I think it is tough to sort out the resentment/love/trust/ and need that you have with your parents once you are an adult, I'm still sorting that out.
