OPEN FORUM SATURDAY and ? about Boogers!

Hello Everyone! Thanks to everyone for your responses from my question below. How are you all doing? I'm going part time at work starting this week, I'm so excited to be home more!!! O.K. I have a question about boogers, of all things. My daughter really gets some big ones! They are so stuck in her nose that trying to get them out is like trying to suck her brains out with the booger sucker. I really want to just leave them alone, but I can tell they sometimes make it hard to breathe through her nose. Any advise on how to get those out without really making her mad. Thanks!

My son has had the same problem since he was a baby (now 2 1/2)  My son's pediatrician told me to get a bottle of plain saline spray (safe even on newborn babies since it is just saline and no medicine is included-- little noses puts out a nice bottle for little ones).  He said to spray it in as often as needed.  This loosens the boogers and lets them come out without much problem.  You will probably still have to intervene with a tissue a little bit, but it will not be nearly as bad.  And saline simply moisturizes the nasal cavity and keeps the mucus from drying out and getting stuck.

If you have the problem of them getting stuck near the nostril opening, they also have saline gel -- also by little noses.  You simply put the gel on before they go to bed, and it keeps the mucus from drying out and sticking to the nose.

Personally, I used both on my son.  I hope this helps you.

Thanks, I didn't know they make a special nasal spray for babies. I was afraid the adult kind would be like a shower in her nose! Where do you get the Little Noses spray?

Aaarrgghhhh!!! Come on with the labour, already! 40 w, 3 days now. Getting just a WEE bit frustrated. I guess it wouldn't be so bad if I didn't know that I only have until next Friday to go on my own-after that VBAC will no longer be an option. Could have just had the stinkin c-section on the 11th, but NOOOO I had to cancel that and try the "natural" route.
Never have I wished to wake in the middle of the night in pain like I am wishing for tonight....Anyone else you cares to wish for pain for me is encouraged:) LOL

Still grumpy,
L

You can get Little Noses at WalMart or any drug store.  I know CVS carries them  It should be by the other nasal sprays.  If you don't find it, you can ask the pharmacist.  There is a whole line of products like little tummies, little fevers, and many others.  I used little tummies when my son was constipated and it worked wonderful.

There is also another line of saline for babies.  It is called Baby Ayr.  I have used both.

Best wishes,

Amanda

I used nasal drops when ds was little. They were especially for infants/kids... blue bottle with a yellow duck... anyways, just squeezed a drop or two into his nose and out washed the boogers.  I still get totally grossed out because DS digs out huge boogies nad feels the need to bring them to me. GAG!!!!
