Ok, what is this I'm seeing about not eating sushi???????

I read another posting about this but there were a lot of posts and i wanted to get my question answered.  Who says you're not suppose to eat sushi while pregnant.  I LOVE sushi.  Havent had any yet this pregnancy, but havent eaten much of anything else either.  Iusually do tuna, salmon and eel.  Do I have to stop????????

Yep, no raw fish. I know they cook the eel, so that should be fine :(

Yes, I would DEFINITELY stop sushi. It is a big NO NO. However other fish I would just put a limit on. Here is a site that will give u some insight on how much fish you should intake or not intake.

Your not supposed to eat sushi for 2 reasons. 1. There are alot of fish that are contaminated with high amounts of mercury 2. Your supposed to stay away from raw uncooked food (this is for obvious reasons).

You would have to be practically living in a cave to not have ever seen or heard any information about this. They talk about it in the news and everywhere.
Of course you have can like a veggie roll or something like that. Even the seaweed used to make sushi is ok in small amounts.
I wouldnt say that yes if you ate sushi you would for sure contaminate your unborn child, but why take a chance?
There are lists that you can find of fish that are ok to eat in (less toxic of mercury) than others. They reccomend pregnant woman really watch their fish (certain fish) intake.

If you want the Omegas you can take an Omega supplement. The fish oil in these is purified.

Yep it can be ok in moderation. Any fish can be , the key is moderation.  Even if you eat alot your child may be just fine.
Again it's all up to you and the risks your willing to take.
The raw part wouldnt be so much my concern as would be the high mercury intake. In an age of autism 1 in 150 ,1 in 94 being boys I would want to keep my body as mercury or heavy metal free as possible.  Regardless of what some doctor says.
The Omegas are very important no doubt. Woman that stear clear of fish during pregnancy should get the Omegas DHA some other way.
The craving part is something that has to be dealt with. Heck I had craved a glass of wine now and then with my pregnancy doesnt mean Im gona go ahead and have a drink.
Again it is totally up to you and your baby may be perfectly fine even if you ate alot of sushi.

Do you think or know if the amount of DHA/omegas in prenatals is fairly sufficient?  I have actually loathed fish this entire pg, and get my omegas mostly from eggs and prenatal vitamins (mostly the vitamins for the past three months, since I've loathed eggs since March, too).  Just wondering if you knew.  Your stats on autism lead me to think you know way more than you let on ;)  Thanks for those, too!  I am so scared of all of this, and I'm having a boy, AND, my DH has an autistic cousin (though they tell me there is no genetic link with autism that they can find yet).  Off to the OB now, but will check in later.

Nordic Naturals makes a DHA. It has DHA,EPA, Vit E, &Omega 9 . It says on the bottle "Supports memory,Learning, Mood and DHA maintenance during Pregnancy and Lactation" It sells for about $24 a bottle. It comes in a capsule form. I think it is probably sufficient enough to get all the omegas you need. But the eggs are also another good source.
The thing with Organic, Omega eggs those chickens are fed flax seed, which is good, but not enough.
The best source comes from the fish.
Also with the prenatals with the DHA/Omega I believe is form a flax seed as well the other one that I have seen comes from an small algae (from the sea) source. So you want to check where that Omega is from and if from the sea is it purified.

You know, this is a funny one, because I don't live in a cave, and I consider myself pretty intelligent and well-informed, BUT, my OB is completely clear with me about sushi (and she is a very well-known high risk OB on the east coast):  eat it if you want to, but limit the intake of sushi with high levels of mercury (salmon, tuna, and fish of the like).  She tells me time and again that the raw food warning pertains mainly to raw and/or undercooked poultry, red meat and eggs.  NOT sushi-grade fish.  Now, being the mostly rational, seemingly intelligent person that I am, this advice completely contradicts what I always thought: raw fish is not good when pregnant.  My OB SWEARS that it's more about the mercury than anything and that the raw meat bacteria (listeria, etc....) will not get you from eating sushi.  Anyway, there are definitely two sides to every story, and for me personally, I have stayed away from raw fish the entire length of my pg (I'm 35 wks this wk), though my OB is ok with it.  Again, she's a really famous high risk OB, too, so I completely trust her.  I totally love sushi, too, but it's a personal decision that I've made to stay away from it, because again, my gut tells me it's wrong to eat raw flesh of any kind during pg.  My point is, it's not always so black and white, and these things should always be considered by your own feelings, your doctor's feelings, and hard and fast scientific evidence.  Good luck!  I will definitely go back to it after delivery.

I have read (I'm in the UK) that pre-frozen like ready prepared in the supermarket sushi is fine, the risk is from fish contaminated with parasites/worms (bleugh) and freezing the fish kills them off :(
I don't like the idea anyway so I won't be eating any!
