On Provera What is my Body Really Doing??

On Provera What is my Body Really Doing??

I have not a clue what the heck my body is doing?? I came off of the pill in 2000 and had no return of flow at all (7 months). So my MD sent me to a specialist who in turn placed me on Provera to initiate a period. After this I started Clomid..Clomid gave me a huge follical cyst. I had an LP because it looked to the Dr via ultrasound that I had no arterial flow to the overy the cyst was on. When they went in everything looked pink and healthy..the cyst was irrigated. That closed the first chapter.....
I went back on the pill....so last year (years of stress and lots of tests behind)..I went off the pill. Trying to be o-natural..I waited for 10 months with no period at all. My levels were always reported as fine even the current levels. I went to my gyn and she placed me on Provera to guess what?? Start my period!! :0 I do respond to the provera. But my main question is..
Does my body ovulate when on it; what is my body doing exactly??
When can I stop taking it to give me periods?

I have tryed one month to see if my body would do it on its own and I got nothing..
Any feedback would be helpful! Thanks!

Tryin2,
Adevotee here on this site had to take Provera every month so that her body would keep having regular periods.  She also took Clomid to ensure ovulation.  She got pg on her third cycle and this may be the route you have to take.

I'll see if I can find Adevotee to tell you more...

hi, I had a simular situation. I went off bc in aug of 05 did not have a period for 8 months. I went to my doctor and she put me on Provera to have af. I tried that for 3 months. I stopped taking provera because it made me really moody. after that i had 2 periods on my own, but they were like 38 to 40 days. went back to doctor and she said i was probably not ovulating and that i needed to go back on Provera to regulate my cycle. well the next month i was on a decongestant and before i started taking Provera again i noticed that my boobs were really sore way before af was due so i took a preg test the day i was suppose to get back on Provera and I was Preggers. I am 11 weeks:) I think that the robitussin helped me. any way how many months have you been on Provera? my doctor said that it usually takes 6 months on Provera to get your cycle back to normal. good luck with every thing.

As JJety said I had to take provera to get af and then take clomid to ovulate. As far as I know you DO NOT ovulate from provera. Provera (I think) basically makes your body shed the uterine lining and therefore causes you to bleed.

I had to take provera 3 times and 3 cycles of clomid. I took clomid October 2005, then again November 2005. I then took clomid in December and got af on my own as the clomid caused me to ovulate. Then I didn't take anything until February when I got a weird, spotty af. I took clomid at this time but this time it didn't cause me to ovulate. Therefore, I had to take provera once again to get af. I took the provera, got af and took my last round of clomid. I got pregnant that cycle. My baby was born December 27/06, I have not had a postpartum af yet. I don't know if I will or not but I will have to wait and see.

Hope this helps you, if you have anymore questions, please ask.

Thank you all of your comments guys. It has been so frustrating!!!! I have been on Provera for Oct, Nov, got a AF from that. Then Dec I thought what the heck lets see if I will do it on my own? Nothin..so here I am Jan. My BB's are killing me and I have had the roughest time..moody and so tired. I hate it. I tested 2 days ago because I though maybe PG but neg. I was on clomid before when I attempted going off the pill(in my other life 2000) and did the same provera to start and then clomid. I unfortunatly was the 1 of x percent that got the massive cyst and then ended up with a laproscopy to irrigate it. The cyst almost cost me my right ovary; thankfully I was alright. So with much time off of the baby train.....and a new hubby too (I traded the old one in for the more supportive model). Here I am. It scares me so badly to go the clomid route again. As you girls know all of the other wonderous side effects as well!! I guess I was hoping my body would just kick in.... Thank you for all of your support!! I cant tell you how much this means to me. I was thinking of buying a OPK. I owner one in the past but it didnt seem to help. Maybe that and alittle Robitussin!! Hey you never know!

I'm new to this WHOLE game...and not liking it at all. I got off the pill in Sept. no period until Nov (on provara)DR. wanted to see what would happen...I have to take provara again in Dec. still no ovulation. I had an HSG, it showed I had a T-shape uterus (which is not good), I then had an MRI, which said I had a normal uterus (talk about emotional rollercoaster. I just had another view done of the Uterus and it confirmed that I have an arched uterus, which is not a problem. Anyway, I just finished my Provara and I'm waiting to start cd1. I then go on clomid (50 mg) and I also start seeing a specialist on Monday. Has anyone ever conceived on only 50 mgs of clomid? I'm hoping that I just need a little help with ovulation, but this all seems so overwhelming.
