How soon after you give birth do you or can you ovulate? Can you ovulate before your first period after birth? Or should I say how soon after you give birth can you get prego if you arent careful???? My baby is going to 5 weeks and I need some help with those questions. If anyone can answer them I would be so thankful!!! Hoffmanangels
That all depends on if you are breast feeding or not. When you breast feed it can take until you stop breast feeding, some people ovulate earlier, because everyone is different. My cousin got pregnant 3 months after delivery while she was breast feeding. If you formula feed it can take anywhere from a few weeks to a few months. Most people won't ovulate for at least 6 months, while their breast feeding.
And that is only if you are breastfeeding exclusively, like every two to three hours. Even if the baby skips some feedings because of the use of a pacifier, your body can switch back to ovulation and periods sooner. I hear that after childbirth you are actually more fertile than usual and breastfeeding in itself is not a reliable protection.
