Ovulation

by Lisi, Aug 06, 2003 12:00AM
Hi All,
I have been tracking my ovulation for 3 months and each month, the ovulation predictor says that I ovulate on the 17/18th day from the first day of my last period.  I have pretty regular periods between 26 to 28 days.  Is this normal?
Thanks,
Lisi

Yes, I usually ovulate on day 20/21 on a 32 day cycle. Women ovulate at laa different times.14 days is just an easy average. But an average means there are plenty below  and above this number...Its perfectly normal...

I'm on a 32 day cycle as well, ovulating on day 20 or 21 too.  I think everyone automatically assumes they are going to ovulate on the 14th day just because that's what they've always been told, but everybody is different.  I have a friend that had sex on day 8 of her cycle and got pregnant.

Thanks for the responses msklarr and silo!  I really appreciate it because at this point, I don't know much about my cycle or fertility.  At least knowing that "I am normal" although not an average woman makes me feel alot better! We've been TTC for 2 months and have been tracking the O days but still, I thought there was something wrong with me.  I didn't think it would be so hard....all those years of being careful...who knew!
Thanks a million!

I just wanted to add that there was a study on ovulation done about a month ago (and I posted their results here) and they found that many women ovulate MULTIPLE times in their cycle... and it's not always 'regular'... so keep that in mind.  For those people using the rhythm method as birth control, it isn't necessarily fool proof!

i'm glad i just read that.  i have a son and am trying to conceive again.  i never really knew when i ovulated but i always assumed it was the 14th day.  i had a miscarriage 2 months ago and we just started trying again.  we didn't have sex after day 15 and i think maybe i was ovulating on day 18 b/c i had discharge on that day.  i never really thought that was possible for me to ovulate on that day.  i didn't really have to count with my son b/c i got pregnant the first month.
thanks so much! good luck to you all!
