PERCOCET AND PREGNANT

by leolion1, Jul 06, 2007 12:00AM
I am 33 weeks pregnant.  I am prescribed percocet for severe back pain for 5 years now and the dr's said not to stop the percs when i became pregnant. I did cut down from 8 a day to 3-4? My body is addicted because after 6 hours of not taking it I feel withdrawal symptoms.  My question is has anyone taken 4-5 pills a day of this med and had a baby who did NOT come out addicted? what are the odds the baby will be addicted? Is it 100% that because my bosy is addicted my son will be too?

I am worried sick, but the dr said if he is addicted its not a big deal they give him something in the hosp for a few days and hell be fine...Please help me....

Also does anyone know how long after birth the baby shows signs of withdrawal from percocet? Its not like heroin or methadone.  I am only taking what is absolutely needed and followong directions....PLEASE Help

I do know that I was prescribed percocet at 21 weeks for pain relief and they just wrote me another prescription for darvocet (which I don't take...it doesn't do anything but knock me out).  I was not on it long term, though so I'm not sure of the effects it has in that kind of situation. The fact that your doctor says it's "no big deal' if the baby comes out addicted to it is what would bother me!! I would really call a different doc regarding the matter and get a 2nd opinion. It just seems like it's kind of a big deal to me if he would be born addicted to a medication...even if they can correct it!
