PREGNANCY AND THE PILL

by YOUNGCARRIEA, Mar 24, 2005 12:00AM
OK I HAVE BEEN ON ORTHO TRI-CYCLEN LO FOR 5 MONTHS NOW...IN JANUARY I SWORE I WAS PREGNANT, IT IS NOW 13 WEEKS LATER AND I AM STARTING TO FORM THAT "LINEA NEGRA" THING, I MEASURED MY "FUNDAL HEIGHT" AND IT WAS 13 CM...I HAVE TAKEN SO MANY HPTS AND THEY ARE ALL NEGATIVE AND I HAVE TAKEN 2 BPTS ALSO NEGATIVE...MY QUESTION FOR YOU GUYS IS...IF YOU GET PREGNANT WHILE ONE THE PILL WILL YOUR PREGNANCY TEST COME BACK POSIVITE OR WILL THE COME BACK NEGATIVE? AND IF YOU GET PREGNANT WHILE ON THE PILL WILL YOU STILL GET YOUR PERIOD OR WILL IT NOT COME? (WHEN MY MOM CONCIEVED MY LITTLE BROTHER SHE WAS ON THE PILL AND SHE GOT HER PERIOD THROUGH OUT HER ENTIRE PREGNANCY, SHE WAS THREE MONTHS ALONG *THE SAME AS I WOULD BE* BEFORE SHE EVEN FOUND OUT...JUST TO LET YOU GUYS KNOW)

THANKS SO MUCH,

CARRIE ANN

I would think if you were pregnant you would have gotten a positive test by now.  OR, you could go to the doctor and voice your concerns and see what tests they do.  I dont think the "line" you mentioned shows that early.  I am 37 weeks and mine was not noticeable until about the past couple of months.

WELL I WAS LOOKING IT UP ONLINE (BECAUSE-NATURALLY I WAS CONCERNED)...AND IT SAID THAT IT SHOWS UP AS EARLY AS LIKE WEEK 13 OR 14...SO WHO KNOWS...WOULD YOU BE ABLE TO GO TO THE GYN AND ASK FOR AN ULTRASOUND?

I am sure you could, but I think they would probably do a blood preganancy test (quantitive) first and if that showed negative they may not do it.  Even if they do agree to do it, it would probably be at your charge (you would have to pay for it).  That could be expensive.  How have you had blood test without going to the doctor?  Going to the doctor is your best option.

even on the pill a pg test will come back possitive if you are.  and as far as an u/s....if you have about 500. dollars to shell out, sure they'll do one. but an insurance company won't pay for uneccessary testing.
the line that you are mentioning is caused by hormones, which can be present even without being pg....my sister got what they call the mask of pregnancy on her face and has never been pg.
good luck

Before getting an ultrasound done I would get the doctor to check for a heartbeat.  It'll just take a second for him/her to do when you're at the appointment.  Even if all your tests are negative, ask to get it checked out anyways (doctor might think you're crazy, but it's your body).  That way you won't have to wait for an expensive ultrasound.  If you hear a heartbeat, great!  If not, then I'm not sure where you should go from there.  Maybe talk to your doctor about your mom's history and ask him/her to explain why some women still get their 'period' throughout pregnancy (a real period is shedding of the lining of the uterus, so if it was a textbook period, then I don't see how you would be pregnant. However, it could just be bleeding from other things).

the symptoms you have are probably from a hormonal imbalance. i had the same issue from feb. to today.(only my period was missing as well as all the other symptoms) I guess you can have every symptom of being pregant with out really being pregnant. what gets really weird is when colostrum comes out for no reason. im not sure what exactly causes it but besides myself i know 3 or 4 other people who have had it happen to them as well. it should all eventually pass but you can always consult a doc. for your own piece of mind.
