I was told that I have PSOS and I am 26 years old. Now my husband and I are talking about having a baby and I do not know where to start. I keep reading that with PSOS womenWomen's way do not get cycles every month but mine come on time without fail. Does that mean that I am ovulating? How do I track the days to find out when I can concieve?
You can buy ovulation kits to tell you when you are ovulating
if your getting your period I would think you are releasing an egg maybe the problem is your egg does not mature. (My sister had this problem she was also PCOS)
i was in the same boat as you... had pretty regular cycles- just a little longer than normal and had signs of ovulation (EWCM, temp spike, positive OPK) but when dr. tested I wasn't actually ovulating at all- but was just trying to... so yes- you can have regular cycles and still not be ovulating. which really sucks btw!!! :o) because you think you are ovulating and get your hopes up every month... and then NOTHING...
i know how frustrating it is. You could have your doc check your progesterone levels between day 20-22 of your cycle to check for ovulation or you could have ultrasounds done to measure folicle growth. those are the only other ways to tell.
i ovulated once on Metformin alone, once on Metformin 1500mg + lowest dose of Clomid (sorry can't remember actual dosage) but didn't conceive either time. i ended up conceiving on the South Beach Diet, which must have done a better job of getting rid of the insulin resistance than the Metformin did. LOL... I'm currently 27 weeks and going strong!! :o)
thats right! I have to look into that, I am currently doing Weight Watchers to lose weight. I have a dr's appt on 6/9/05 and will ask about the insulin resistance testing. and go from there. I think I need to inquire about seeing an RE. But need to find out if insurance covers it first. The SB diet is alot like Atkins right?
hi. my name is jenny and i just found this site. i was told i had PCOS at the age of 14. i'm 20 now. my husband and i have been trying to have a baby for 3 years now. In about nov./04 my doctor put me on clomid 100mg and Metformin 1500 a day.last month they increased my clomid to 150 mg a day for 10 days and i just finally ovulated, but as i just found out 3 hours ago i'm not pregnant. i guess we all just try try again right? As to the question...most women with PCOS do have regular or irregular periods but they dont always ovulate. i think your best bet is to see a specialist. this way they can give you monthly ultrasounds to look at your ovaries to see if they measure big enough to release an egg. If not then they will most likely put you on Metformin and clomid. I know that is the last thing any woman wants to hear but its the best route. that way you know for sure and you can me watched so you know when its best to try having a baby.....Good Luck To All....I know i need it...lol
not really so much like atkins... SB does include protein, but focuses in on the "good" carbs (ones that take longer for your body to turn into sugar) so it doesn't exclude stuff forever like Atkins... with SB the first 2 weeks is kind of restrictive (lean meats, small amounts of whole grain bread, and lots of veggies) after that you gradually get to add back in fruits and a bigger variety of veggies... I lost a big chunk of weight on it (35-40lbs) but the best benefit was the pregnancy...
Ok, I had an ultrasound done Friday because I thought for sure I had a cyst the size of a bowling ball...and nothing! While I was talking with the tech(very informative) I asked her about PCOS and she stated that PCOS is always bilateral. I am curious as to your experience. I think the measurements of my left(problem ovary) was 14cm and the right was 8cm. She said I did not have that many folicles on my right ovary. meaning that by no means did she think I had PCOS. that all being said:) I am chubby and hairy:( yikes! and now it leaves that insulin test to help me in my quest. I was wondering what are your experiences.. thanks

i have had psos since 18 years old im now 33 i had fertility treatment to concieve my son (injections) i never had periods up untill the last three months very regular does this mean i could be ovulating????????????????????????????

we started TTC#1 last December 2003 and got pregnant on may, it was without using any medication or any help. unfortunately i miscarried after 6 weeks. i Started Metformin 1000mg on Sep 2004 for 3 months to lower my insulin level and help me release mature and healthy eggs. I was not able to conceive with metformin alone so my dr put me under Clomid and increased the dosage on metformin to 1500mg; and i conceived on the 3rd cycle. now i am almost 6 weeks and hope for the best. i am still taking metformin and progestrone.
ovulation predictor kits are good, youi can try them , but you wont know if your eggs are mature enough and healthy and it might end up with m/c.
good luck to all of us :)
