PUTTING OFF TTC TO LOSE WEIGHT

PUTTING OFF TTC TO LOSE WEIGHT

Hi Ladies, I'm 5'11 and 195lbs. I had a miscarriage on 8/24/06 and have been ttc again recently. However, I have gained about 15lbs in a very short period of time and i just decided to put of ttc in order to drop some weight. Since the m/c there has been nothing that i want more than to have a healthy pregnancy and a healthy baby. My husband is eager to concieve (conceive) but i told him last night that I don't think i'm physically ready. I can't carry around another pound. At this point i'm quite disgusted with by body and i can't afford to gain 50lbs with a pregnancy.
Has anyone have to chose between ttc and weight. i don't know why but i feel bad about this...would this be considered a selfish decision...am i being superficial. Please advise!!!!!

I started a regimen to loose weight because I am a big girl 6'4' and 340lbs. I lost 5 lbs then found out I was pregnant but what I am trying to do is to eat healthy as to not gain excessive weight. Well I am currently 12 weeks and my last weigh in was at 10 weeks 2 days and I had not gained a pound....yet. Not too sure if this is a good thing or a bad thing but I am hoping not to gain more than 15lbs with this pregnancy. I do eat when I get the cravings but I also walk a lot which I think helps me. I also try not to eat after 7pm. I too wanted to lose at least 50 lbs before I got pregnant, but I guess everything happens for a reason.

I would actually commend you for actually trying to lose weight first. I am overweight and tall myself (5'8, 230 lbs...ok...240! LOL!)~ well, I miscarried on Sunday and I know that it is a horrible thing to go through. I don't blame you for wanting to care for yourself before caring for a baby. Maybe time to heal is in order as well. I personally have tried to lose weight and it is not easy, but it takes great strength to put off your dreams. It will be better in the long run for a healthy you pre- and post new baby.. Wishing you the best!

I too an comtemplating putting off ttc to lose weight. I am 5'9 and 190 lbs, so even though i don't feel or even look overweight, I definitely am. I guess with me it's more of a lifstyle change in prepartion for a baby. I don't eat terribly bad but I do have my moments. With my 1st pregnancy I gained hardly any weight (my son consumed everything) and even lost weight once he was born; however, I don't think i'll have such luck with my next pregnancy. In preparation ofr my next pregnancy, I plan to eat healthier and walk. I think that even if I get pregnant while trying this new regime, I should be okay and will have put everything in place to help me keep from gaining a whole lot of weight while pregnant and even lose afterwards. Talked this over with my NP yesterday and she said that approach was perfectly fine. I'm just worried about depriving my child, but eating healthy doesn't mean eating nothing at all and walking is always good (as long a you don't overexerte yourself).

I wish you all the best and good luck ttc!

losing weight is certainly a healthy choice - however I want you to know that extra weight does not mean an unhealthy pregnancy. And you'll have lots of time AFTER pregnancy to take it off too. But whatever you decide - it has to be the right decision for you. Pregnancy is not the time to focus too much on weight gain/loss - so if you are worried you will do this while pregnant if you don't take the weight off now - then I think you are making the right choice.  I just wanted you to know that holding extra pounds does not mean you are going to have problems in your pregnancy.  Good luck!

I think it will help you in a lot of ways to lose the weight first.  You will be at lower risk of the weight-problem issues with pregnancy, such as high blood pressure and even gestational diabetes.  And while some women lose weight naturally on the healthy regimen of a pregnancy diet (in other words, the baby is gaining but you are losing) it is not a time to diet.  Look into Weight Watchers -- the meetings are VERY supportive.  Good luck!!!  Annie
