Pap test during pregnancy

Pap test during pregnancy

I am 10 1/2 weeks pregnant and at my last visit to the OB, she advised we should do a pap test at my next appointment (I'll be 13 1/2 weeks then) since I've never had one done. Is it safe to have a pap test during pregnancy? I'm not really sure what it involves so a bit worried.

I had one also early in my pregnancy.  I was scared to have it thinking oh goodness I am going to start bleeding but everything went well and I am now 28w5d with a healthy little boy.  Try to relax and take care.

I refused the pap smear during this pregnancy.  Then again with all my other complications I've been paranoid about a lot of things and didn't want to take a single chance.

Ya, even I had a m/c in Feb so I am very jittery about things this time around. Is there any risk from a pap smear?

i had a pap in early pregnancy. it's standard, unless you've had one in recent months. it's safe. in fact, i think it may be important because it can help them make sure everything's healthy (no infections and such that could affect the baby). it did not hurt, and i did not bleed after, although i hear some people experience spotting.

I HAVE HAD 3 PAPS WITHIN THE PAST 3 months.  Dont ask me why, seems like they like diggin in me.  I dont think there is any risk.  I have visited 2 facilities and am guessing thats the reason.  They need to merge their records.

I just had a pap smear done last week. I am just over 13 weeks now and not to scare you or anything but it was extremely painful. I was so crampy afterwards and it was very painful. You should have one done to be safe but just a fair warning that mine was pretty painful afterwards.

First of all, you should be having paps on a regular basis if you are sexually active.

Lecture is now finished.

Paps are perfectly safe in pregnancy.  I had one with this baby at 12 weeks.  I am high risk due to age and previous mc.

Honestly, my paps during pregnancy DO hurt more than others.  I had one at my first OB appt, which came back with abnormal results.  Hence a repeat was necessary (turned out OK, thank goodness).  But I've been fine-no ill effects due to the pap-I was just more sensitive, I guess.

I am 9 wks and just had a pap smear.  I generally spot afterward, but this time I had a lot of of bleeding.  That was two days ago and I'm still having a brown discharge.  The Nurse Practitioner insisted it was normal.  I guess I'll just have to believe her.
