Partial Plecenta Previa

by Lilo, Sep 09, 2004 12:00AM
I was told last week after an episode of bleeding and ER that I had partial plecenta previa.  I am 17 weeks and I would like to know if anyone has any info on this.  I'm wondering how long it will take for the placenta to start to move.  I have to take it very easy right now.  I also have a level II ultrasound next Thursday...so maybe they can tell me something then.  I was so hoping that this pregnancy would be uncomplicated!  But at least the baby is fine....so far they are saying it is a girl!  We will have that confirmed Thursday also.  Well I hope that someone can give me more incite on this...  Have a good Friday!!!
Thanks!
Best Wishes to everyone!!

I had "low lying placenta" at 20 wks. My own OB told me it is nothing to worry about this early and that with uterine expansion, the placenta usually migrates sightly upward, not interfereing with a normal vaginal delivery.

However, you're bleeding and I never did> Mine was found during a normal level2 u/s.

As long as you take it easy (as I am sure your own Ob told you to) you will be fine and your level 2 will be able to give more info on what's going on in there!

Best of luck!

I know that this is Thursday...I just meant next Thursday.  Time does go by slow when you are waiting on something for baby!  It feels like days in between the baby's movements when it is only hours.   I was just kinda worried because the Dr said that if the placenta doesn't move up then they will have to do a C-section.  But don't get me wrong...I will do anything it takes to have this little angel!!
Thanks again.

Thanks for the reply. Did your placenta move up as time went on?  How far along are you now?  I'm just so nervous!  My mother had this with my baby sis, but she lost so much blood that she had to have a blood transfusion and she was in the hospital for weeks.  I don't believe that mine will progress that bad...especially since it was only partial.  I guess as far as I know it could already be moving!
Again thanks!!!!

I am 29 wks and I will be scheduled for my 32 wk u/s in another at my 30 wk appt so I have no clue where my placenta is now. I do know that part of the reason my OB isn't too concerned about it is because I have to have a section anyway. But I understand how anxious you must be about it! And it's great that you have the attitude "whatever it takes"! With such a great outlook, you'll do just fine! :)

Hello, I was placenta previa with abruption 10 years ago. I also had the bleeding, but was hospitalized for 9 weeks. They would give me steroid shots to enhance my DS lungs, twice a week, for the whole 9 weeks. He was 6 1/2 weeks early, but very healthy, and came home with me. I did have to have a c- section, but it wasn't that bad. I also had a amnio at 32 weeks, I think that hurt more than anything else.

It is funny though, how you have to go through so much to get them here, but you don't really remember a whole lot from it. He will be 10 in February, and my second child is due 4-1-04.

Good Luck to you, and keep us posted on how things are going!

Hi i also had a c-section with my dd 4yrs ago. it wasn't bad i think i would rather have another c-section instead of a vaginal birth. i had to have a c-section because i had preeclampsia(sp?) and high blood pressure when i was preggo. i was also on bedrest most of my pregnancy. i was 1 week over due i was supposed to get induced on feb 21,2000(president's day that year)i had sex the night before and 5min after we finished i lost my mucous plug and went into labor had dd through c-section feb 21,2000, kinda funny huh? how the day i was supposed to get induced i went into labor. don't be too worried about c-section it's not as bad as you probably think. i have a very thin scar it was a bikini cut so you can't see it.:) best of luck to you! any names picked out yet?

I just wanted to comment on the pain of a c-section. Yes the pain and recovery is worse than with a vaginal delivery, but I would take a bikini cut any day over a 3rd degree tear on my girl parts!

Also, I had breast augmentation 2 yrs ago. That is an out-patient surgery. Not like a section, which is considered major abdominal surgery. With my section I was up the next day and off my pain meds by day 3. With my breast surgery I was on pain meds for about 2 wks. I couldn't move for 2 days I was in so much pain.

So there ya go. A section is not nearly as bad as a boob job! :) LOL
