Pelvic Exam or Vaginal Exam

I hope is not a silly question. The reason I am asking this question is because I feel really anxious about these exams and I want to be mentally prepapred... I know...I know... still giving birth is coming up.
I am going to be 34 weeks next Monday... I have been reading that soon my doctor will be performing exams to check my cervix and so on. But is it going to be like a pap (uising specullum...sp?) or with his fingers. I have that area kinda swollen which I was told is common due to the blood irrigation.
Just asking and if anyone could please clarify that for me, it will be appreciated.

My dr never used a speculum in my pelvic exams in late pregnancy.
