Period After Childbirth

Period After Childbirth

After I gave birth I bled for 3 weeks...I stopped bleeding for 2 weeks and then I started what I guess was my period at the 5 week mark. It lasted a week. I then stopped bleeding for only a week and then started yet another period at the 7 week mark...Is this normal? I pump breast milk about 6-8 times a day and had no idea I'd be having so many periods or bleeding.

My guess is that you are not experiencing an actual period because you are breastfeeding.  The bleeding is probably still from post partum.  I stopped bleeding at the 4 week mark and started bleeding a little again around my 6 week check up.  My doctor told me that the extra bleeding was from increased activity and to still take it easy for a little bit longer.  I think your body is just still trying to heal and maybe if you take it easy for a while the bleeding will subside.  :)  Hope this helps!

post partum bleeding can come and go, and for some women lasts as long as a couple of months before stopping completely.

You may want to give your doctor a call.  Let them know what is going on.  Usually it means that you are overexerting ourself and should really take it easy but it could be something more (retained placenta fragments)and you should have it checked out.
